I would love if it was revealed one day that Herobrine was indeed added by Mojang after the story, only generating at some astronomical interval. Much like how people think the Beatles were intentionally screwing with people, making references with Paul's "death."

There was a time when I was young where I was sure I found herobrine. There was a lightning strike on a mountain and my friend said he might spawn from that. Then there was this creeper that wouldn’t die no matter how many times I hit it. I was convinced it was herobrine that shape shifted. This was when herobrine was very popular.
