My first bike was an 84 TT 600. 15 years old thumping all over town raising hell.

When you realize you've bought a motorcycle you'll never sell, it's a different kind of feeling.

Its the sense of having a workhorse, it might not be the prettiest, or the fastest, but its loyal, it gets the work done and is reliable.

Your right. Something about a thumper. To me, its got usable power. Power for every walk of riding. Simple to work on as well.

I can understand I had an xt 550 Yamaha for 13 years, with front disk from the 600. Living in Greece 6 months on an island 6 months in Athens it was perfect. 93 up to 08.😊

Nice mood, cool spirit, clever bike. Thanks for your work on this video!
With the van you have a killer combo of simplicity and authenticity. It must attract serenity!
Remember your XT600 bears the engine of her dirt enduro oriented big sis, the TT600. It was not engineered for long distance full throttle in 5th gear, but for more spread usage of the range of gears: 2/3/4/5... So the 5th gear pinion & wheel are Not oversized like you would expect on an adventure long ranger. It nevertheless does the job so well it's kudos to the work of these japanese designers. But the 5th pinion is very often the first to pit & wear down on the oldest XT600 models. I would say minimum respect of the engine, oil quality and change as often as possible...
I had a 1987 XT600 2KF 25 years ago, and just bought a 1984 XT600 L identical to yours as a way of stopping to miss my first big thumper so much... I am still jealous of your van though .

Hey such a very nice bike ! These XT's are so common here in Europe, you see them everywhere... You really should go to the channel of itchy boots at season 8 episode 1 in which she got her self a Yamaha XT600, I think it's a 1987. She has been travellin' around the world for several years now, you'd probably like this channel. Did you know that the Yamaha XT600 is a multiple winner of the grand Paris-Dakar rally race in the 70s, 80s and 90s? Yamaha as a manufacturer is ranking in the highest places in the Paris-Dakar rallies. So you're basically riding a Paris-Dakar (world's biggest Rally spectacle) winner!

I have a 91' XT600 and absolutely love it! Just a quick note: try sourcing the original filter cap bolts, the bottom one is really peculiar and when inserted block an oil passage. If a random bolt is used, the passage will be left open and lower the oil pressure. Ask me how I know! anyway, you made a really good deal on it! great bike that can be thrown everywhere. If it werent for the emission regulations and restrictions here in Italy, i would keep it as my only bike.

I ride XTe for a long time(17 years) and I like it. Rear yss shock and better front springs. It's great adventure tractor 👍

these bikes are very good designed- u can slam it with 160 on the autobahn, roll on small streets and go into dittracks- when good maintained 100.000km on first motor possible...dont drive the motor from the cellar-not 3rd or 4th gear 2000 revs and allways full throttle...never full force when cold... good bikes in germany go for 2500 rising
