Yeah, agreed. Sifu, Nioh, and other similar games have inputs for the moves. I know this is a "dahk so's" game but a wheel at least would be nice if they're afraid of "misinputs."

I always treated this like a ps1 game and just used the best move for the mob or situation/boss I was in.

An advice about the weapon wheel mod, depending on your recording software, the recordings of your gameplay won't show the weapon wheel itself but it'll still be shown when you're playing.
I've seen that you're doing No HUD boss fights, so that's an advice if you want to have that clean look for your gameplay and not have the weapon wheel showing.

BTW, I use either Outplayed or Bandicam for my recordings and they both have a dedicated record only your game option, and that's probably why it doesn't show the weapon wheel in the recordings, bc it's technically not part of your game files, and I think the recording doesn't recognize it so it doesn't record it.

I always got my ass whooped in DMC until i practices like it was a beat 'em up.
Sekiro akwardly reminds me of Vergils fighting style now that you take a closer look at it.

To me this is the flaw of Sekiro's combat. Doesn't make it bad considering this is their first pure action game. If they ever make another game with combat like this, they should add this wheel system.

It feels like the reason why they didn't put it is so that player can't abuse them. If this is the reason, then the solution should not be restricting them instead rebalance the combat art and prostethic so each of them doesn't feel broken.

I also use this mod because it's fun. I have to say, I don't think it feels broken. You can say Sakura Dance is broken but that thing is limited with spirit emblems so yeah it's weird that they don't implement this. This and DMC V are my favorite when it comes to combat. I hope if Sekiro 2 exist, they improve upon this a lot.
