This was a random RedBox pickup for me, and it turned out to be really good. Utilizing some familiar tropes, it just plain works. The acting is well above par, the directing is assured, the writing is good. There are some beautifully crafted hallucinatory sequences, however nuanced they may be. In fact, it’s just a beautiful film overall. And the lead actor is cro-mag sexy. That never hurts. I loved the soundtrack. It’s nothing revolutionary, but it’s a really good little horror film, especially for those not into blood, guts, and gore, and who aren’t all that impressed with endless jump scares as a substitute for story. That being said, I do wish the ending had been more supernaturally tinged and a little less predictable.
