Okay listen fellow #nursingstudents. If you are planning to take the ATI proctored medsurg exam then you definitely want to pay attention as i drop information on what to expect on this exam. The subject topics are as follow:
1) Know you electrolytes and lab values: i.e potassium, sodium, calcium and what disease process that would cause fluctuations in these values.
2) Always pick the least invasive course of action first
3) Choose the intervention that will prolong the patient's life and buy you more time.
4) Know cardiovascular system and procedures and what other organ systems that will be affected as it relates to cardiovascular diseases.
5) Know renal issues and what they affect and what are some causes such as pre-renal, renal and post renal causes. Also know the electrolytes that would be affected
6) have a good understanding of pharmacology that can be used to help with different different disease processes.
7) know the gallbladder and the pancreas and what to monitor for.
8) Know what to monitor for for a patient who is receiving TPN
9) Know Respiratory, Asthma, COPD and their manifestations
10) Know Blood transfusions and the steps to administer.
11) Burn Injuries
12)Alzheimer's/Dementia and family support
13) Eye disorders and manifestations

I take my Med Surg exam on Friday. I need a 57% or better on this to pass the course. We need a 74.5% exam average so this exam makes or breaks me. I've been reading the ati chapters the professors suggested reading and doing all of the practice exams/quizzes. I also have been rereading the power points. Our school hand-picked the questions for this ati exam so it will not be curved, basically what you get is what you get. Did your school handpick your ati questions?
