I'm glad you touched on this. HTML and CSS were a breeze. Javascript is intimidating af.

I finished 15 vanilla JavaScript projects(well, I just followed a tutorial), watched quite a lot of videos about JavaScript fundamentals, I read even a book about JS but literally a few days ago find myself not being able to write simple program that changes page's background. So, repeating after others is a good thing, because you're starting to know how the language works. But to actually understand what you're doing, you need to do it yourself, sometimes looking at the solution to compare your code at the "correct" one, when something doesn't work(because you won't write functional, working code once you started) or even if it works(to make your code look "clean" and "beautiful")
And remember, making slider, sidebar etc isn't a goal, the goal is to learn how the things work: methods, properties, where to use arrays or objects and so on.
Btw, thanks for the video man, I wish I watched this earlier

javascript is such a monster. CSS is simple but when you go to JS is like damn did I learn anything

I agree with this guy. I'm two months into learning Javascript, and after one month of "tutorial hell" learning basic javascript stuff they introduced me to the DOM and how eventlisteners and shit worked. Coming right out of CSS class I would have loved to start right there even if I didnt understand EVERYTHING about how it works

I've always been tempted into learning JS libraries so I can start building really cool projects, but then I always tell myself "Debee, you gotta learn and understand JS well before jumping into any framework or library."
Great video👌

Thanks Joe you really help me out with your speech. I have been battle with JS for awhile sometime i quiet and by the time i come back i see that i have forget some part of what i have learn before. Js is a wide course which you can not learn at once. You learn inch by inch and still practice everyday otherwise you gotta forget everything. Presently, I enrol on intership and we are at the JS yesterday my instructor was'nt go through all the historical background of JS He just went straight to Event onclick and he gave us assignment to design a restaurant menu. though i know some basic of JS but for some of my colleagues they find it defficult because they're new to coding. I understand him he was trying to teach us what we need to get a good JOB. Thanks once again Joe.

I am six months now into programming and when I started, I was trying to learn Python at the same time learn JavaScript. I started with Python for Data Science but switched to web development. Data Science isn't only programming your using many other tools like Tableau and a bunch of libraries for Python like Pandas and learning SQL for databases. But anyways, after I found out I didn't like Data Science. I decided to get into web development, I began by learning HTML and CSS. But stopped to play around and I did, I tried Java for 2 weeks, I tried C# and downloaded Unity for game development. I Tried the Harvard CS50 free online course learning the C language and a bit of Python again. Then played around with Kotlin and eventually with Swift.
After dancing around and wasting my time, I started learning all over again, but this time focused deeply on learning HTML and CSS. I am working on the Odin Project and now I am almost finished with the fundamentals of JavaScript. I've learned how to manipulate the DOM only using JavaScript. Took your advice created a couple of buttons to change the background. created a button to change the opacity to have the button fade a bit and change to different colors. Now I am trying to learn how to use local storage to store data on the hard drive. I know if I didn't play around, I could have been ahead of the game, I could have been learning React now and making better websites or using Rest Api, anyways it is what it. Thanks for your excellent videos, man, I appreciate them.

This is good stuff, Joe! I think you're one of the few content Creator's that actually deliver. Real value likes yours...sells itself. It's obvious that you talk from experience, are already there on the Next Level and are trying to help the next person get there, too. rather than just pushing a product. Seems like so many of these guys out here:
aint really there yet
/are faking success
/pretending to know what works
/want to hype up some mysterious answer solution
/dance around the concept with industry jargon
/never really get to the point or saying anything valuable
/waste my time for 8, 12, or 47 odd minutes, to finally say I gotta buy some system and then and thennnn the magic door to answerville will be revealed instantly transforming me into an architect/ lead developer/ Genius MasterApp Maker.
Just wanted to say thanks, Man! for not being another BS in a realm full of BS-ers. 👊😁👊. What you say turns out to be legit. E.G. : php /Content Management will get you an interview/job while you are still learning to do the Big Boy stuff like React or Svelte.
You the man Joe 👊💪💯

This is so much more helpful than the standard advice I hear a lot on YouTube. I keep hearing - "to learn programming, build stuff." That's so unhelpful for true beginners who need to learn the fundamentals to even know where to begin with building projects. Thank you for this video. Subscribed.

I agree, over the past week I was building small projects with JavaScript. I was building projects like Input Message, Add/Lower Counter ..etc. So yeah, I was in the right path. Thank you Joe for this video.

I definitely agree! Start small but don't be afraid to try something large. The main thing I had to learn was patience. I wasn't going to learn it all in a day, week, or month. Following this advice will definitely get you on a fast track to learning web development but even the fast track route is going to take some time. Thanks for the great content!

I really needed to hear this a year ago. I followed tutorials and made big projects only to realize I had to go back to the beginning and do all the little stuff Joe talks about.

One Youtuber tells me I need to learn how to use Jquery. Another YouTuber I follow tells me i shouldn’t use jquery, just pure Vanilla JS... I’m so overwhelmed and confused my head is about to spin off from anxiety....
