Super Mario, Legend of Zelda – these two are games out of the 3000 available in the database. Nintendo, Gameboy, arcades and – these are consoles that the 90s generation remembers pretty well.

It’s meant to be a variation or improved version of the ultra popular RS-97. And we can characterize it with one word – RETRO. Not just the games – turning it around you will see that it is powered by a Nokia phone battery ; I believe nowadays even the phones with replaceable battery are considered as retro!
So, let’s take a closer look at the box – nothing fancy, cardboard, underneath which you get the handheld game console, a user guide with a spec-sheet, charging cable and tv-connection cable.
Most of the games that are developed for these platforms have been designed in times where FULL HD resolution was rather a theoretical thing. So do not expect the fanciest graphics in the world. And if you have played these games on one of the good old arcade machines – it will feel quite nice. Has the size of a Smartphone, and is actually built on something like that. 16GB of internal storage seems to be running its own operating system which is very lightweight. I found no exact information about CPU and RAM – based on the complexity of these games – it’s likely nothing too powerful;
Powering on takes a few seconds, and you can go right to the games section.
Neogeo, Gameboy (that’s what GBA stands for), SFC – with the super Mario series, MD – Sega Mega Drive; GBC is game boy color, Sega Master System games, GG and GB – Gameboy. Each one of these has an icon which is supposed to orient you which platform you are about to scroll through.
Concerting the gameplay – I won’t say it is awesome. It is rather good! Button placement is fine, feels like average quality joystick, there’s not much of ergonomic design, but I believe that for our generation – this is something we don’t really care about!
There are a few things that you can fine tune in order to improve the game play – there is brightness control.
I like the fact that the cage is semi-transparent – reminds me of some of the best videos done by Zack on the Jerry Rig everything channel. This device would certainly NOT pass the bend test, but is very suitable for carrying on a pocket – so make sure to be careful.
The AV out is an awesome feature – if it doesn’t work, you have to manually configure that from the settings. And here’s the thing that we – and I say “we”, because of my dear friends - Super-Tony and Super-Lyubo - who tested in parallel – the AV output is 16x9. Most of these games are designed to be at 4x3 aspect ratio – because of the kind of monitors that we used in the 90s and wide screens have become more popular at a later stage. So the footage on the screen looks actually good!
Well – I want to finish like that – an awesome device for grown up kids and for curious youngsters. For that price it is a steal! A big thanks to Tomtop for sending over this testing sample – it is a thing that made me smile and brought so many delightful memories back. Can you now take a moment and tell me – when seeing this – which was the first game that you’ve though of?
Comment with the title below, and feel free to share anything else that you want to 

Here’s the promised list with the games inside:

Note - the list is taken from RS-97, and the Q9 may have a few more.

Watching it put a smile on my face. Played all these games at the arcade when I was a kid. Ah.. good old memories.. Mike thank you this wonderful review!

Made me nostalgic about days when I along with my friends used to spend all our pocket money in those game centres.

I had this device. It's crap and awesome at the same time. For or $50 you get a lot. You can play a ton of games out of the box. The menu system and finding games is a nightmare though. And also not all software runs well. Some of the GBA. 3D games don't run well at all, like Doom and Duke Advance run crap. Also the GB and GBC games are all squashed.

It's still fun. The arcade games, Neo Geo, Mega Drive, NES and most SNES games run fine. After plaiter ping it a bunch though, I ended up spending the money for a GPDX XD, and that's the best way to play these games.

Mega drive is not even close to alphabetical. However, it does promote random blind-plays, which I greatly enjoy.

The one downside is, my analog stick fell off! I never used it and everything else is still fine, but be wary about sticking it in your pocket to cavalierly.

Don't drink and Ebay. I'm now the proud owner of one of give it a good home though. Poor little thing is barely remembered in the retro market.

That washed-out/blurry AV output....yikes, but then I suppose you can't expect the world for $45 - in this case I would rather use this as a portable only. I can't imagine the input latency would be pleasant over AV either. Also, at 4:40 SMK is really struggling to run, looks like it's not quite powerful enough to handle emulating extra SNES cartridge chips like the FPU used in SMK. It would just suck if a kid's first exposure to these games was running on one of these cheap devices with janky emulation.
