ALL METAL STAIRS - BUILDING ON-SITE IN THE BIG CITY

Показать описание
I’m on-site today building metal stairs for a shop in the big city. It’s always fun to make it to Oklahoma City for a job ever now and then. I was working alone so it’s always a good opportunity to share how I do that efficiently and do bigger projects alone with minimal equipment. My gin pole allowed me to get these all metal steps built quicker than if I had built it in place without any help.

Time is money Money is I buy equipment I always look at how it will make the job easier and faster. Being a 1 man show I tend to buy equipment to make my life easier.

You should consider using a corded circular saw for your thin material. Its less clean up. I used to torch everything too but a good circular saw with a metal cutting blades does wonders.

That magnetic straight edge is pretty sweet. Good idea

Austin, I gotta say - videos like this you produce are invaluable to me. I will ultimately be doing mobile bid work as a welder here just a State over from you. So to hear your experiences moving from one section of the profession to another, your new lessons learned are huge for me. I know this is your goal - and while I am not an inner circle member yet I am an avid Industrial Tradition customer. Got to support somewhere. Thanks for all you do!

Hey man. I just want to say it’s really cool to see you go from pipelining, to seeing you grow into another branch of welding industry. I’m sure there were some sleepless nights where you weren’t sure where you were going to land. But it looks like it’s going to be ok. God blesses.

For help on stairs stringers . For your framing squares . There is brass button clamped you can buy that slides on the square . Makes it so much easier to keep the same angle Everytime . You can find them at ace and store .made by general tool .

I wish my hands were that steady with a torch. It’s like watching a master at work when Austin is cutting stuff.

Yes and no to your equipment scenario.

Equipment has a cost factor to rent or own. You have to factor both cost in when bidding a job. Yes the quicker you finish a job equals more money but time plus expenses also have factors.

Love the videos. Keep up the great content.

Here’s a little tip that I’ve found very helpful over the years when building stairs. If the sum of the rise and run equals 18” the stairs will be comfortable to climb. (Example: a 45 degree angle stairway should have a 9” run with a 9” rise. Whereas a steep 30 degree angle stairway should have a 6” run and a 12” rise, and so on.)
