Align the tape path on any VHS VCR.
This one is a JVC but this applies to all machines.
Did it with a scope and again without a scope to show how it is done.
Enjoy.

Okay! This answered the question I once again posed. Will have to try this with the SLHF-860D I acquired from a friend. The tracking on that Beta deck won't lock on to any tape I put into it. It could be an alignment problem or else a failed component. It works great otherwise. Would be great if this works on that unit. Will have to eyeball it since I lack a working scope. Thanks again...

PS I got an test tape from the folks that sent me the refurbished Sony SLHF-450 so maybe I can use that to set the tracking. Sure can't hurt...

It's been a long time since I did that. Probably 1986 as part of my job. Maybe 1993 was the last time I aligned a VHS tape transport for a friend or neighbor or maybe for myself. Wow that's nearly 30 years ago.

Thanks for the video. I wish I knew which points to connect the scope to or how to fine it. I wish I could have seen the guide posts and how you were adjusting them.
Thanks again for your interesting videos.

Would auto tracking interfere with the alignment procedure? Do you need to disengage it first? Thanks.

I think the best alignment of the RF Envelope is with the Oscilloscope
and with a perfect test tape or tape recorded with a PERFECT VTR.
It's possible in only emergency case, to alignment
the RF Envelope without the Switching point?

i have a sony hifi stereo vcr from around 2003, it plays and records wonderful but theres errors at the bottom of the picture about 2cm on a 32" screen, now about aligning the tape path: i do not have a scope but could always buy one i suppose, i just tried a dolby stereo vhs hits tape, after about 5 seconds the stereo matrix kicks in as it should so everythings working well apart from that small issue, just about 2cm at the bottom of the screen the picture is rolled up, any ideas on this? is it happening because im using an lcd tv and not crt? and perhaps the overscan of a crt hides it?

Hello, my name is Aroldo I live in Brazil. I have two JVC HR-S6700U that have the towers out of alignment. There is one that besides the towers, the audio head is also misaligned. Where can I find a VHS tape with the bars to do the alignment? Thank you for your attention

Hello. What are the signals (H.SW; A.H.SW; H.AMP.SW; RF C; RF Y; RF OUT; RF AUDIO; RF VIDEO) from HEAD AMP C.B.A. Are you using to connect an oscilloscope?

i wish you would show us a close up, of the screws you are adjusting, for just a second, so i know what to look for on my JVC VCRs, rather than just verbal - "third from the right on the green thingy."

I have a Sony EV-A50. Powers "On". When I play videos, all I am seeing is Blue screen. I can see and hear the tape load itself. The tape is running. You can see SP and counter displayed on blue screen and audio is static. Where to start the troubleshooting?

Can you do the same with a Beta deck? I'm having a heck of a time with old tapes that don't track, yet the tracking control is to an extreme position. Having the noise bars pop up every few minutes is aggravating. I opened the cassette flap to look at the tape and it doesn't appear damaged even when checked with a magnifier. Can ANYTHING be done with old tapes that don't track but are otherwise fine? I also have a bunch that are shedding but that will require me to bake them so i can get the contents back. have you tried that? Any pointers? Thanks...

Yes, I was right: the ads from commercialization are visible on iPad, even if they are blocked on my computer. Fine by me, if they support quality content from you.

Hi @12voltvids, I think I've the same issue but with my Sony VHS deck, it only show this issue with VHS-C tapes, I've aligned it for common VHS and its 0.K., do you know if there is anything else that I can adjust/align to watch my tapes?, also is there any difference at all between the VHS-C and the regular VHS cassette?. Thank you !!!.

Another quick question about scopes: Are you using a dual channel scope, or can this be be done with a single channel scope?
