Every Time The MCU Referenced Star Wars

From Steve Roger’s list of things to catch up on to the wild and zany world of TV Marvel properties, we’re taking a look at all kinds of Easter eggs, references, and possibly even coincidences throughout Disney’s favorite superhero-based acquisition. A whole lot of arms get chopped off in these flicks, especially in Phase Two. While this may seem like a coincidence, Kevin “Darth” Feige himself has said that all the limb displacement in that span of movies is a reference to the Emperor Mousepateen’s at that time recent acquisition of the Star Wars property. The logic being, well, Empire Strikes Back was the second chapter in that franchise, and this was phase two of this one — also, gotta appease the Mouse. In total we get eight choppins: Killian’s arm in Iron Man 3, Bucky’s whole gimmick in Winter Soldier, Groot’s poor arms in Guardians of the Galaxy AS WELL as Nubula’s — sorry, Nebula’s hand at the end of that film so she can make her escape. We also have Thor’s Loki assisted dismemberment in Dark World along with Malaketh’s very legit, portal-assisted hand loss — then we’ve got Klaue’s origin story in Age of Ultron and finally, a slightly more creative de-arming in the form of Darren Cross’s right arm in Ant-Man.

Also in Thor: The Dark World we get a suspiciously similar fighter crash landing sequence to one in the cinematic trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic. That game came out in 2009 while Dark World premiered in 2013. There’s actually a few similarities between Star Wars properties and Dark World, such as the shields used in Episode 1 versus the ones used to protect Asgard, which are in turn similar to what’s used in Wakanda in Infinity War.

Ya want some more? Watch the dang video! Ain’t nothin’ down here except words.

What's your favorite reference from this list?

I wonder if Nick Fury realizes that Mace Windu looks like him. Therefore Samuel L Jackson exists in the MCU. Even Mark Hamill exists too.

My only issue with MCU making all of these references to Star Wars movies is that it makes it harder for the possibility of crossovers or them being in the same universe

Star wars will live forever. Always when someone on the planet doing big Business on the toilet its a Hommage to the sequels. Deserved.

I also noticed that on eternals, in kingo’s airplane, there’s a tv in the background playing empire strikes back. The scene where leia says I love you, and han says I know (when he’s about to get carbonised)

What about when Everett Ross is flying that remote aircraft in Black Panther, when he accelerates it sounds just like the Millennium Falcon!

This implies that Nick Fury AND Sam Jackson coexist within the same universe

So, this means you could do a show on any movie that includes anyone who loses an arm in any film/tv show at all.

Captain Hook anyone? And dont forget Snatch, where Frankie Four-Fingers loses an arm.

(you probably need to try harder next time)
