I remember sharpening crayons in that sharpener built into the box. It was never sharp enough for me, and my favorite colors were little stumps in no time.

Is this the Sage 5? Love the look of the knife curious if this knife comes cheaper with other steels?

Interesting. You've convinced me to try out...not Rex 121 (not in my budget) but K390. I'm going with the Wharncliffe Dragonfly.

Thanks for making this video. I’m considering switching over to diamond completely because even though I like my worksharp belt sharpener I use a diamond sharpener for sharpening my razor blades. Yep I will sharpen my x-acto blades while cutting eva foam for making costumes

My Rex 121 Sage 5 arrives tomorrow :) First Spyderco!

I use a Worksharp Precision Adjust, and sharpening my Spyderco in S90V was a pain, definitely thinking about investing in some diamond bonded water stones.

Sharpening the crazy hard steals is so much more forgiving. With softer steals everything happens so much faster especially when you're learning.

I've been sharpening knives my whole life, diamond is 100% the way to go.

I'm now going to buy this knife, my first Spyderco. I blame you. Lol.

Case steel tho soft gets extremely sharp. Same with sandvik out of Sweden . I like magnacut a lot for a hard steel that isn’t difficult to sharpen

Would 600 grit be good enough for this steel?

Neeves, have you actually sharpened and re-profiled it yet? I'm wondering how low of a angle can it hold before becoming chippy? And 600 grit I imagine?

I have a question, edge retention and toughness seem like a similar characteristic. What makes them oppose each other in a steel aspect? What affect does heat treat have? There are so many variables with steels and who makes them I’d really like to get some more info on it

Atomedge Here: Just got a Maxamet Sage 1 (On Sale) and put a fresh edge on it with fresh Gold Series KME stones... They blew through it. Fresh diamonds make any steel basically like grinding styrofoam.

Not sure why everyone isn’t using diamond stones at this point, you can get a wicked edge in absolutely no time on literally any steel without having to worry about maintaining your stone. Seems like it’s the superior option in every aspect.

You’d have to be ultra careful not to ever drop a knife made from Rex 121 if that chart is correct because the very little toughness means it’ll break like glass or ceramic. In addition this steel is fine for small knives but not larger blades that will be batoning and chopping as they’ll likely chip.

How hard is magnacut to sharpened comparing to rex?
