Teaching a Horse to Hobble

Long before you put hobbles on the horse, you prepare her for success. Pressure and release with proper timing, rhythm, and feel. It may take days. Take the time it takes to get the horse confident.

Thank you so much for this video! I would love to turn 2 of my horses out on an unfenced pasture while I work with the other in the pen for a few hours. Will also be nice for camping where there aren’t trees, but again, lots of grazing space.

Without starting by "roping" each foot, and teaching them to lead by that foot you are hunting a wreck. If you get them out of control scared you need training yourself. Few horses will react pracefully, as this already trained animal did, to suddenly being hobbled. Incrementally work into hobbling. Teach them to trust...

Im still not completely sure the point of this. Is it just to teach a horse not to move around when they have the hobbles on?

Nothing wrong with hobbling but I would have done a lot more prep first

Hobbling is so stupid. Just teach your horse to be calm when tied normally. No need to restrain their legs like we're still in the stone ages.
