Are my MTB days over?

Some of you may or may not know, that for 6/7 years, MTB has been my go to hobby. But after a horrific crash in 2018, I've struggled physically with my shoulder. I have a genetic condition called hypermobility syndrome, and any damage to ligaments and muscles, takes months if not years to heal. After multiple sessions with physio, although my injury improved it was never enough for it to feel like it did before and struggled with pain. I had been diagnosed with carpel tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow, and moved to hiking when it became too cold to ride in Finland. As biking took a back seat, the condition in my shoulder has got worse. My last ride I did, after tears of being in pain, I booked back into physio and it turns out there is a hole in my rotator cuff, which is causing all these issues. So Physio is now happening to try and stabilise my shoulder.

Thank you to my good friend Sari - Sarpale666 for the footage (miss you)
Are my riding days over? Not entirely, we will have to see, I might not be able to do what I used to do but I'm not throwing in the towel just yet.

Fair play Dee, I couldn't do that, absolutely not. They say you never forget how to ride a bike....I think my arse is glad I'm a Hiker not a rider lol saddle bum is a killer! By little bro loves his bike 🚵‍♀️ cracking footage, even with "under boob cam" 😆 it was top draw and the audio worked really well too 👍 cracking looking day for it too, how did you feel afterwards? Hope your wrist is OK ❤ thanks for the flash back too! Sh1t 😳😬 loved the photos and video, definitely think you've got more riding days in ya Dee! Have a great weekend, Ceri and Kat ☕ 😀 😊 ❤

This looks terrifying but fun at the same time. Not sure I have the stones to do it haha. Give me a snowboard anyday. Fingers crossed you’re able to get the injuries under control so you can continue to enjoy it x

Good on you for getting out on a bike! I have not ridden in years and am definitely more of a hiker than a cyclist. Looks a little scary some of mountain bike trails I’ve walked past. But great to see you doing another hobby you enjoy!

Yikes, your getting on a bike that needs servicing! Sweating already! 😢 Hey there Betty Bird! 🚲 yikes tech jargon, 🤯 What does Joe call his bike? Wabcam!? 🤣 straight into the trees!! Wow, this does look like incredible fun! Think this angle makes it look extra exciting, lower down filming is a great trick! (Used by spielberg in the film duel btw to make his shots look way faster)! That track is so narrow and bumpy in places! Gosh, those shots of the wet August 2018 must bring back some tough memories. Hope the physio can help Dee. ATB Nick and Jill xx 👍

What a great video, it does look a little scary though, especially from that angle when you're on your bike. Fingers crossed to getting your shoulder fixed and being back on the bike!

Oh, Mrs Metalmans birthday is in August as well (random comment of the day) lol. I used to have a mountain bike for years, which I used for work, when I was at Fujitsu and just mucking about around the local woods but got sick to death of flat tyres, so spat my dummy out about 8 years ago and sold it. To be honest, looking at that footage at Hamsterley Forest it made me want o get another bike again but when I saw the consequences of that fall, at 67, I think, maybe not. I hope the physio works out for you and you can get back to doing what you obviously love! Take care, cheers Alan

This is a wonderful film, it's so cool to see you riding technically difficult stuff too. Regards injury, I don't know if this will help, but this is what I am doing to get back on my bike after long term illness & injury. I went to an excellent physio who has helped me with strengthening exercises & using a turbo trainer. Turbo riding is the most boring, soul sapping riding you can ever do, but it is helping me. I also have a Turbo challenge to complete, riding the same distance as Lands End to John O'Groats, which I'm currently half way through. I'm never going to be as fit as I was, or ride as hard as you do, but just being back on a bike is wonderful. Good luck, you fabulous, awesome person!

Hey Dee! Firstly sorry for the late watch on this, but this popped up while we were on our travels and we both definitely wanted to wait until we were in the land of wifi again and we could watch this on the big screen, as it deserves, and I'm glad we did! So enjoyed seeing you on your mountain bike Betty🚵‍♂️🤩. It's clearly a huge passion for you, and for Joe. It's something that Pete totally gets, he has mountain biked since he was a kid and worked as a bike mechanic for just over a decade. So Pete loved watching this trail, apparently you and Joe have "skills" if that means anything to you😆👌. I love biking but mountain biking downhill does scare me, i think it is the fear of injury, i was watching that 2018 video through my fingers😟. Nah your mountain biking days are far from over, we can't wait to see you out on the trail again🤩🤩. Pete says "Shred it!"🤘
