Being a collector will always make you somewhat of a investor whether it’s voluntary or not.

I am a collector who pretends to be an investor.

What’s crazy was I had a tp7 Fortress Whale for who knows how long and I recently sold it for $420. Bought it long ago for $30 and I do like it but needed the money so I let it go hopefully, to a person who can appreciate it more.

I'm an investor in pokemon and yugioh, but I am also a collector and a fan. If i ever sell any of these cards it will be years down the road. For short term games i used the stock market and crypto lol :P

Great points man 🙌 most of my favourite cards are worthless but I enjoy them equally to the valuable ones

I collect cards and usually the buy the ones from my childhood as well. Cards that I seen from the anime and from Forbidden Memories (PS1 game) and also cards from newer sets. For example, I bought Legendary Dragon Of White back in 2015 for 6 bucks and the price of it as of this writing, is increasing 50+ bucks and the same thing applies for the Legendary Magician of Dark that I pulled from the World Superstars set. I hold onto them because I like them and not looking to sell them. At the some point down the line, maybe..

Agreed! You can still enjoy the cards and the monetary gains that come along with it, and the way those compliment each other is honestly one of the big strengths in investing in cards compared to stocks and the like.

I couldn’t agree more with your points man.
The first time I saw blue eyes ultimate I lost my little mind.
If I still had my first Blue eyes ultimate and it was SOME HOW, a PSA 10, I would sell that quicker than I can demolish a steak and order another, newer and cheaper secret rare copy.

I honestly see my self more as a collector than an investor because even tho the cards that I decided to collect when up in value,
I never see my self thinking of how much profit I can make if I sell now. However, I do see them as a backup option if for some reason I went broke and I needed money.

I laughed when he mentioned man eater bug 1st edition. I just bought this and it’s off to PSA for grading, so might get it back next year

I used to collect back in the day, i sold them when i was young still, now I’m kicking myself for it 1 cause i loved the cards and 2 cause now they’re worth good money. So i definitely dance that fine line of collector and investor. I want to rebuild my old collection, but it’s hard cause i can mostly only afford OG unlimited cards but the investor in me is telling me that that’s a waste of money you might as well buy the first edition mint 10 cause those are the only things that are going to hold and possible gain value as opposed to unlimited. So it’s really difficult. It’s like to i just spend $500-1000 and get all my old cards back, or do i spend 500-2000 each and get my old ones back in psa 10 or 9 so that i have something that in the future has potential of appreciating.

I think people are mostly hating on investors who went into the market because of the money instead of the love for the franchise. They don't even know what a Kuriboh is but they will hype up that LOB BEWD for the big stonks.

Beside that I agree. The big part of collecting cards is to get rare/expensive card and to see them grow in price. Same thing for investors.

I guess theres a distinction where it comes to collectors that buy reprints. We just love the art of the cards, not willing to pay the excessive premium for certain 1st eds, and we buy in to ghost rare unl stardust/blackrose knowing fully it may not be a sound investment as konami may reprint them anytime.

I like calling myself a collector because if as soon as I say Investor people make it seem like you have to make the best investment for the money. To me the price is just my barrier to acquiring the cards I want.
