Learn how to create interactive rollover buttons with animation in Adobe InDesign

Follow along in this tutorial and learn how to create custom rollover animations to buttons using Object States. The buttons created in this project will also have multiple actions to trigger a photo gallery and recipes in a fictional e-cookbook magazine layout.

Note: In addition to exporting for EPub (Fixed Layout), you can also publish online and view in a web browser. This technique, however, will not work for PDF (Interactive). If intended for mobile/touch device use, do not use hover object states. Use simple On Release or Tap trigger buttons. Thank you so much for the helpful video! I’m currently creating about 20 interactive pages within a single document. I’ve been following the same steps to add buttons and object states to each page, but they only seem to work correctly on the first page. On the others, the buttons don’t function as expected. Do you have any idea what might be causing this issue?

Instead of doing a second box with white fill and 25% opacity on button 2, could you copy and drag that top layer from button 1? Thank you :)

Aaa you just saved my life with this tutorial.. i would have never figured it out on my own! Thank you 🙏 i just have 1 issue! Please help.. when i preview, everything works, the rollover, the clicking to pop up the photo the close button etc.. BUT it only works once for some reason! When i rollover or click none of the actions show up again.. Do you know why??

Thanks for your very helpful tutorials. I would like to ask you something. I have a problem with publishing my online magazine. This works fine for the desktop, but with a smartphone the menu bar keeps disappearing so that I cannot browse any further. Do you have any idea how I can fix this?

is epub the best for PDF file images? cause I've been trying to make my buttons function, but they don't work based on the first category above the Epub category, so please tell me, can this work just fine on all of the buttons (images) edit for PDF files?

But what about people that want to view this on a touch device? Shouldn't you add click events as well?
