‘Creepy’: Emmanuel Macron’s 24-year age gap with wife under spotlight

Writer and broadcaster Esther Krakue discusses the “creepy” 24-year age difference between French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte.

Brigitte was married with three children at 40 years old when she first met Emmanuel in high school, where she was a teacher.

She divorced her husband in 2006 and went on to marry Mr Macron in 2007.

“We know what would happen if the roles were reversed, or more accurately if the genders were reversed,”

“If you had a 40-year-old man married with three children falling for his student and a classmate of one of his children who is the age of 15, you know the media speculation around that would be terrible.”

The minimum age of consent in France is 15 years old.

My parents had same age diff and were the best parents ever...they were married for 36yrs. Only trouble is...my mother became a young widow and never remarried. Father died in 1985 and she died in 2018...she missed him dearly all those years. That was the sad part. My father was 42 and mother 20..they were inseperable devoted and very much in love. Nothing creepy at all. I had a beautiful homelife seeing such genuine love.

Its the fact that she was his teacher and seduced him when he was an underage student that makes it all the more creepy so it wasn't like they were both adults when they first met each other
