Does Freshwater Drum Taste Good?? 🤔🐠 #fishing #cooking

Ive found that frying them a few minutes longer than normal fish can take out any fishy taste, can also soak in saltwater and lemon/ or lime juice for 1 hour before cooking

I just caught freshwater drum for the first time personally I thing deep fry ruins it but doing a shelltop recipie with Cajun seasoning is amazing it tasted and textured like chicken.

I've fried them, blackend them, sautéed them. Etc.
You could scale them and bake them with lemon like trout, too. My only tips are to bleed them and cut out the red stuff.

You have to bleed them after catching in my expirence makes the meat taste way better

One thing I would recommend is that red portion in the middle of the meat u can that out making a small v and it improves it alot!

Drum and red fish are in the same family. Sciaenidae. So a drum is basically a freshwater red fish.

Cut the red out and keep them on ice. They get mushy real quick in warm weather.

Deep frying them is a mistake. Try them in butter with lemon and salt/pepper

Im not picky about fish, and I like oily fishy fish, but freshwater drum does not sound appealing.

It tastes like walleye but you have to cut the red meat out including the blood line

Nope. I'd have to be very, very hungry to eat that. Bluegills, crappie, walleye.
