3 dlc's i'd pay for:
-space legs
-landing on every planet with atmoshpere
- huge ships (larger than cutter, can carry other ships)

Scale and sense of scale is a big part of spacelegs I feel. Looking up at your ship from the landing pad increases the wonder of the Elite universe and possibility. The thing is to have space legs everywhere all the time wold be a mammoth task, so it needs to be in smaller stages. Start with small communal spaces (landing pad and tower, a few ships) and expand from there. Fully damage model the ships for the gameplay this will unlock. Lower pilot workload (and tedium) by providing autopilot multi-jump route planning to compensate for the players time investment.

I think for the sake of immersion, a more simplified version of what star citizen has would be enough. I don't think we need firearms or anything like that as it would effectively require a literal second game's worth of content to be made just to make it worth having in the first place. The social ability and ship maintenance/engineering would be plenty enough for the more relaxed theme players look for in a game like this

Magnetic boots....solves the artificial gravity problem on our ships. They don't need to invent in game lore/explanation for artificial gravity, nor do they need to program a complex zero G movement system.
Just magnetic boots.

I'd LOVE to see the actual numbers for players who use VR compared to how many don't. I'm not trying to trivialize the problems space legs would bring to VR players, but I'm not convinced that VR players really represent a large enough percentage to justify NOT putting space legs in just because the problems they'd experience.

The immersion and potential new mechanics, like in ship module repairs, would far outweigh any problems they'd create

Definitely. Just imagine being able not only to walk around your ship but also customize the interior like in the sims. Being able to add furniture change the size of your rooms add other stuff and then being able to invite your friends on board and then everyone having his own room . Watching from their room on your ship how you jump into a system or how you fuel scoop a star. Space legs must come . Braben also stated 2 years before or so that they are working on space legs .

Yes it does. It needs a space bar where the community can get together, hang out, show off, and repair ships. Watch inc traffic, listen to music, grab supplies, and plan missions. I am 100% serious.

If these "bars" were done correctly the discussion for legs would end and it would bring to the game exactly what it needs without changing it drastically. Sounds easy to implement also. The key would be not to make too many of them so each place (bar) would be popping.

Even creating the parking for such a hangout would be exciting. Which opens up taxi services, and a slew of other possibilities without changing the game. It truly would be an "addition" and an easy yet exciting way to give us legs.

Turning off and on to fix systems...I do that at work every day! For me as a content creator space legs will be a good thing to grab some really cool footage, but totally agree that we must have value game play based around space legs. As for for those non-vr players wanting to controlling space legs, i'd recommend a cheap xbox controller as a quick method of switching between flying with hotas and walking.
Whilst i don't want COD type gameplay, i would like to be able to take out drones, turrets and other station defenses whilst on foot and even have a little Mass effect type shoot out thrown in for good measure

To me the main risk would be to become a FPS. It is not what we want. Not at all. Walking should be done without any weapon, should be optional, designed only to immerse ourselves more into the game, like the possibility to walk around stations (I dream to take one of these vehicules we see), go to a "space bar", enjoy the view by the windows and see other Avatars, walk around installations to find items or something to scan, explore a cave on a distant planet, go for a walk outside SRV, board and explore an abandonned ship/wreck, walk around the ship or simply have a room to "rest"... But I insist: it should be optional, designed to increase immersion, and not the bulk of the game like in Star Citizen where you need to go out all the time.

Great video, great question.
I think we’ve heard from enough sources that the next update for Elite Dangerous will most definitely be a paid update.
Secondly, I personally feel space legs is something that’s been under development for some time now. I felt like the commanders update was confirmation of this with the advent of customizing your avatar.
Secondly, as you noted in your video, the attention to detail in the ships cockpits is at a level beyond what is needed for current gameplay and I can’t imagine what company would spend time and money creating things that would never be realized if space legs was never an intended future update.
Thirdly, I feel with the games current camera mode, it wouldn’t be too hard to pop it on a body and have it walk around. Of course there would be much more needed but the foundation seems to be there already.
I completely agree with you regarding the down sides of possibly adding too many steps to completing a mission, and finding that perfect balance would be necessary.
In my opinion FDev would “add” space legs as an option.
You could either choose to press the 3 panel and go straight to your srv or fighter to launch, or if u so choose, you could get out of your seat and walk there.
This would allow those who do not wish to utilize space legs to continue playing the game as is, and choose not to undertake “space leg missions”.

I would personally love this option as I could choose to utilize space legs only when I feel I want too. Some would all the time and others would rarely do it.
I would love it. For me it would make exploration and epic journey. Peaceful and full of wonder and excitement.
I agree. Imagine being far out of the bubble and having your FSD break down. You go down to engineering and fix it. Or walk out the airlock to take in the scenery of a beautiful Lagrange cloud. Or walk on the hull of your ship while parked above an earth like world. Epic in my book.
I would probably go exploring and never come back to the bubble.
And yes. The Krait mk2 has probably the most beautiful bridges in the game. I imagine walking from side to side taking in the amazing scenery from the epic views the wide glass canopy provides.

Not to mention in the last update FDev added ALOT of stations. Non coriolis stations. They are in almost every inhabited system. Multiple in some. This would have taken a lot of effort. I can’t imagine they did all this just so you could choose to defend or help the station or pirate attacks.

They’re clearly up to something. I believe it’s space legs and atmospheric landings.
Lagrange clouds offer the volumetric rendering. Although they had already done this before with the thargoids green clouds hovering around planetary bases.

IMO this game is going to get from epic to mind blowing in the coming year or so.
I personally hope it comes before mid year. Possibly around second quarter.
And yes. I would happily pay for this.
If you think about the amount of game play we all have for the cost of the game. It adds up to pennies per hour. For some even less.

Thanks for the great video. Commander Cyfus out. O7

Space legs in the ship, absolutely. It would be fantastic. Running around a station to pick up missions, not so much. Your points on that were spot on, e.g. SC. If space legs were "ship focused" it would be wonderful. Thanks for you video Cmdr. Plater. Well done!

Relock suits have ferromagnetic boots, so Zero-G isn't a problem

Would gladly pay for a DECENT space legs expansion, ofcourse lifetime pass owners should get this free.

Me personally FDEV should implement Exosuits or bi pedal combat mechs controlled via telepresence first to experiment with FPS combat. This combat should be centrwd around planetary base assault, sabotage and Thargoid ground combat. Combat engagements should include base warehouses and hangers and the like. I call this package "Moon Legs".

If players enjoy that then start work or rollover that part of development into Space legs.

Elite Dangerous needs more depth to the current game loops, parts of spacelegs could offer that detail/immersion and change of pace that the game needs.
The current missions are mainly jump, honk/scoop/shoot/scan and then return to base. The bit that spacelegs could add would be the ability to enter a crashed ship, enter a base especially if these end points could be procedurally generated to give more diversity.
This could be done with drones and just by expanding the current SRV planetary base gameplay which is so limited, but I think spacelegs would add even more screenshot potential. The social potential is brilliant and the messing around potential would keep so many of us happy.
I would love more planets and deeper interactions but spacelegs would really make the game feel different. I do really want to stand up after 5years and walk and look out of a different window!

Simple fix for space legs.
Make it a paid DLC.
If you want to continue to fly around bolted to your seat, fine!! Do so, really don't care.
The UI won't change to keep you happy and you'll be in your own serves with other dummy bolted to your seats.
And the dlc for space legs.
Have it revamped, options to customize the controls or have it preset already.

Very well done Plater.
A perfectly fair summary off all pros and cons surrounding this fairly devicive topic.

Elite feels so sterile without the "human" element. Everything is done with messages and the closest thing you see to a human are their profile pics.

Love the insight! Excellent pro/con video for space legs. Multi-crew needs some love too

Mech games probably have the best solutions, basically, space legs is for indoors, walking around your ship might mainly be filler, but you could have black market deals, gunfights, private eye investigations, missing peoples cases, all in the space stations or planet outposts...
