First of all EA doesn't care about offline mode anyway secondly i think it is easier and necessary for NBA to have these teams as it increases the no. Of teams u can play with.
In fifa u got entire teams of different country's leagues upto their 3rd-4th divisions.
Adding multiple flashback versions of classic teams would be great but it might just be considered as too much unnecessary added work.(and better spent adding to fut the actual cash cow)

Imagine something even bigger, imagine playing a retro career mode, any year. You could manage Prime Barcelona or play a player career mode with Haaland by creating him and seeing which teams he would play for. That would be sick. (If you seen the same comment on IG I’m the same person, I saw your video and saved it to comment this and coincidently stumbled onto this video)

It's not that simple, because in NBA case, 2k has the license of everything included in NBA. In football, image right are much more decentralised.
In practice making let's say Arsenal 2003-04 would require not only license from Arsenal to use their old kit, but also get rights to every player that was playing back then. Jens Lehmann was removed back in FIFA 20. Gilberto Silva is not available since his retirement. Let alone cases like Jose Antonio Reyes who died in 2019 what makes even more complicated. Maybe even recreating Highbury may be tricky from a legal standpoint.

This is not 2K and u need for manny players extra licensing. 2K has it easy because the players they have a legend squads are from the nba and there for they don’t need any extra licenses
