This song isn’t about drug addiction in the literally sense. It’s about being addicted to someone you’re in love with, but who never loved you back. This is every single word my head, heart and soul screamed at my ex during our marriage, especially when I finally started to break away and leave. Only then did he act like he wanted me or cared. I tried to leave three times before the actual divorce (three attempts at sobriety) and each time he put on his act and I stayed (three relapses that lasted years). Thank you for putting such raw, real pain into song. It’s 3 minutes and 37 seconds of pure healing and self-forgiveness.

This is a great choice for Criminal Minds Broken Wing if you listen to the lyrics. He’s talking about a relationship using the metaphor of addiction and the breakup being sobering up. In the episode the killer started killing after his wife, who was an addict, died. You could say he was addicted to her and the line “now that it’s over, and I’m sober (she’s gone/the relationship is over) the pain is so real” hits different

I met my husband when I was in active addiction. I got sober 07/06/2018, my marriage rapidly fell apart once I stopped using drugs to cope with my trauma. I picked up my divorce papers today, in 30 days, I will officially be single again. This song makes me cry, but it also helps remind me that these raw emotions I use heroin and/or meth to hide are ok to feel. My pink cloud has popped...my world is crumbling...but relapse will be certain death.
