The bass voice leading to the cadence is just amazing. Bach has the best melodic, fluid basslines.

I watch you play, then I look at myself. And I think. Wow I see why my piano teacher won't let me off this song...

I learnt to play this piece 20 years ago in my youth....what's really amazing is that Bach still kicks some serious asses, 3 centuries later!! :))

This is awesome. I used to play this close to this tempo when I was 16 - don’t ever take 22 years off piano. Even with muscle memory I’m only back to like 3 minutes.

I'm just learning this piece. I can't keep my little fingers from curling up and getting all tense. I am struggling so hard to get my hands to completely relax. It's like I have some involuntary connection that causes my little fingers to move when I don't need them to move.

Yet another piece of music that I loved to play. I was 12 when I played this. I had to wait for my oldest sister to finish the book. We couldn't afford many books of our very own. I played this at festival, an annual event at another university. We were judged and given certificates. The highest was Superior Rating 😊❤Yes, indeed I was Superior Rating. ❤I played Rondo rather than scales, to calm my energy for my piano lessons. My teacher knew, piano was my way of communicating feelings. I would take one piece of music and play it 10 different ways, depending on what I was feeling, thereby, not being punished. So, I would have 5 pieces to practice and learn each week. They were all quite different. She could tell how I was doing by which song was practiced the most. If it was Chopin's Nocturno, or one of many 2 and 3 part Inventions, or a Fugue. My orchestra teacher also picked up on this, despite never saying a word. She tricked me into an audition for the Annual Youth Symphony. We played our usual duets, that required me to also play parts of the second violins, on my viola. I didn't know we were going to play my cello, so I didn't bring my books. I got one of my piano books out and played the first song. It was "The Swan". I didn't know it was a famous cello piece. I received first chair on any instrument I chose. I chose viola so my friends could participate, 1 violin, 1 cello...both first chair.😊❤

This is played at the right tempo; so many other people play it too fast.

This was my first classical and first Bach piece I ever learned a few years ago. Love it!

My son just played this song. He played when he was 9 year old. As I remembered, he cried when he couldn't play it. However, he practiced again and again many times many months. Then, now he can play this. I am so proud.

Paul is an award winning Painter and studied at the Royal Acadamy of Arts. He just so happened to play piano very well, but didn't want a life as a concert pianist. So he paints, gives piano lessons and produces these excellent You Tube videos. We are blessed to appreciate these Masterclasses of technique.

It's always a pleasure when I get a piece to study and then find it played by Paul in this channel

1, 8, and 13 are the nicest sounding inventions imo

I love the 2 part inventions and use the C major as teaching material and for performance. I really look forward to your recording of the full set, Paul.

Remember this piece was written as an excercise for his son. Inventions were never performed in public, they are basically fugues just WAY simpler. However, Bach made sure his inventions were beautiful
