You are a great teacher. Clear and concise. I´m getting back to more frequent horse riding after many years of career and family attention. Your videos are down-to-earth, professional and inspiring. Congratulations!!!

I had my first riding formal lesson today - the instructor asked me to stand up in the saddle and it was IMPOSSIBLE for me to do. I was all over the place like a sack of potatoes. I guess I need to work on my core! I’m also a 42 year old overweight guy so my centre of mass/balance and general flexibility is a bit messed up compared to more slender and fit beginners hehe.

This is an EXCELLENT video and one I’m currently kind of struggling with, learning and CONSTANTLY thinking about when I ride. I do Pilates which helps but really like your aids of the dollar bill AND the ball under your arm
I’m ALWAYS leaning more forward! I’ve actually tried standing up in my stirrups like you suggested here, and can’t do it at all! It’s a really great thing to practice!!!. My big take away today is keeping my knees relaxed and using my thighs! Thanks for your help! I watch your videos multiple times and love how you just get to the point

Thank you for another wonderful video! My riding instructor was getting very upset with me for not being able to keep my seat but she wasn't telling me how to fix it. My own horse has a very smooth slow trot but most of the horses at riding lessons don't, and since I'm not used to the bouncy fast trot i bounce all over the place and kinda freak out. which causes me to hold my breath and stiffen up. I am definitely going to practice these tips on my own horse and hopefully next Monday at lessons I'll be able to keep my seat much better!

Excellent advices and I love the end on the breathing part, realizing that the horse feels everything !

Thank you so much for your videos and explanations! My instructors always told me “shoulders back!” “Bend elbows!” But never told me why so for me it was just another thing to remember while trying to stay on a house and steer lol now that you explained why it makes sense!! Thank you!!

I learned the seated riding position as "standing in the saddle but you lower yourself until the horse is carrying your weight". Just as you keep your weight and balance over your feet when standing, you keep your weight and balance over your feet when in the saddle at well, but let the horse carry your weight on your bottom. The balance is the same. A horse is not a chair, you do not ride it like a chair.

If the horse were to disappear and your feet were on the ground, you should not fall over. Because you are still balanced over your feet.

these are awesome tips! I am currently trying to better and lighten my seat because I own an older horse with some back issues due to a lot of beginners with bad seat having ridden him, I'm trying to lighten my seat so I am not in his way and he can relax his back.

I deal with straight arms and needs to bend my elbows but I found it hard to bend my elbows and "shorten my reins" as the instructor would say. I can see your reins are slighter loosen, is it then okay? I am having a hard time to find that balance. I also tend to grip with my thighs in canter and found it hard to keep my legs relax ... Love your videos, always found it so helpful! Thanks so much for being so authentic & genuine!

Loved the tips you gave especially the shoulders back. When I took lessons many, many years ago the trainer also told me to pretend someone had a string pulling me up at the top of my head! 😀. Also I remember those ride a buck classes at schooling shows.

Great content and you have a new subscriber of an older rider (50+ years old).
