Why product-led growth is NOT working for startups

Why product-led growth (PLG) isn't working like it used to:

Competition. Everyone is now PLG. This means PLG is no longer different, and it's harder than ever to win with PLG.

The incumbents are now PLG. The startup competitors are now PLG.

So "We're PLG, they're not" isn't a viable a competitive strategy anymore (at least in most horizontal markets).

IMPORTANT CAVEAT: PLG is still great, but now it's table stakes. It's a foundation on which to build additional differentiation (both in product and GTM).

Valid take -- there are definetly still some categories where PLG is a novelty. We're in manufacturing building a PLG product and it blows people's minds. 🏆
