Is the 2021 Subaru Legacy XT a BETTER midsize sedan than a Camry AWD?

The Legacy has been in Subaru's lineup for many years, and has always had AWD. Under the hood is a 2.4L turbocharged flat-r that is pumping out 260HP & mated to a CVT transmission. On the outside you will find simple Subaru styling. On the inside you will be greeted to an 11.6in infotainment system, higher fit and finish. Is the 2021 Subaru Legacy XT a BETTER midsize sedan than a Camry AWD?

You really have the best review channel. After looking around for a few months, no one does it like you. Keep up the great work

My wife wanted one of these in Touring XT trim. We cross-shopped the competition and this is the only car that ticked all the boxes: AWD, great interior design, comfortable ride, memory seats, decent power, quiet and efficient. I wanted a K5 GT but I couldn't find one within a thousand miles to even test drive, so I said screw it. Anyway, I've got a Challenger Scat Pack Shaker for hooning around in...

You covered the Touring XT back in the Auto Show in 2019 and I feel in love with it and ordered it in October and picked it up January '20 before COVID, thank you

I bought a Legacy Touring XT at the beginning of summer. Shopped all mid size sedans and it was the most comfortable for my 6' 4" frame. The Touring XT has a pull out thigh extension that really supports my legs. Easily the most comfortable seats in the class and on the Touring they're ventilated. They're a really sharp tan nappa leather too. One of the best looking interiors in class. Plus it beat all others in ride comfort and quietness. Yeah, the exterior styling is pretty conservative, but its not faddish and will still look like a Subaru Legacy ten years down the road. Plus it has the best resale value in the class. The engine is really strong too and the CVT is fine as long as you're not driving like a complete idiot. Subaru's is an in-house design and chain driven. One of the best CVTs on the market. All in all I'm really happy with it.

*One of the most detailed reviews out of all the reviews I've seen*

I have a Legacy (2005) 2.5 GT wagon in limited trim; black on black. Just crossed 100, 000 miles. Wouldn't trade it for the world. Classic and rare.

Just traded one early from a lease. The car drove well and was a good highway cruiser. CVT was fine. But the sensory overload from all the safety alarms going off, the awful start stop system, and the buggy infotainment… this was the most ANNOYING car I’ve ever owned.

I have a 2020 Touring XT and love it. The review is pretty spot on. A very comfortable ride and a lot of overall bang for the buck. Yes the infotainment system can be a bit quirky but I think that holds true for many other brands including my former Honda Accord. Speaking of the Accord and unloaded my 2013 accord because of the starter issue which Honda acknowledges with a Service Bulletin but not a recall. I had to have my starter replaced. It was fine for 6 months and then the same issue started again. I used to be one who always praised the reliability of Honda and sadly I no longer share that opinion. From my experiences, that seems to have slipped over the last decade.

This looks modern and up to date.

If the year was 2013.

Sadly the Legacy has being discontinued in New Zealand with the market in love with SUV’s.
Would love to see it on sale here as a standalone model in turbo spec.
You are fortunate to get this model in the US. Very understated as per most Subaru’s but this vehicle definitely deserves to be successful.

Solberg, McRae and Burns on throttle Subaru has the symmetrical AWD down to a science!!! The Legacy absolutely plays it safe but hey if it ain't broke don't fix it huh!? Great review as usual Joe and Lori!!! You guys are the best in the biz!!! #RaitisRides #OnThrottle #Subaru #Legacy

I own both. Toyota wins for efficiency, Subaru wins for build quality by a mile.

If I lived up north this one would definitely be considered. AWD + 260hp, great styling and interior quality materials. Wheelbase is 108.3. Civic is 107.7.

Own a 2015 legacy premium trim and absolutely love it. A lot of similar features to this model, just the older generation of course. Best car i have owned. The biggest thing i wish 2015 models had was the turbo. Was disappointed when finding out they didn't have the turbo for that generation model, but was happy to see them bring it back with the 2021 models.

To quote you Raiti " I almost forgot about this ride." That's Subaru's problem. Very nice interior, nice tech, and their AWD is probably the best out there, but exterior styling is super bland. Sedans have a hard enough time getting sales, Subaru needs to be a bit more bold, and no I don't mean a ton of plastic cladding like the new WRX.

It’s a elegant looking vehicle without the nonsense of fake vents and mumbo jumbo of other midsize sedans out there, specifically the hideous Camry. Joe is spot on about the interior. I was just in one at a Subaru dealer yesterday and it’s above the standard of the Accord and Hyundai.

My wife has a 2022 Legacy XT Limited and loves it so far. Effortless pick up, smooth ride, quiet, the CVT is not noticeable like the 2016 we test drove years ago, very comfortable interior, big trunk. It's not perfect, such as I couldn't care less about that whole big-screen situation. I would have preferred the regular screen with buttons and switches.
