Some of the most deadly events of history have happened not from people trying to hurt others but from trying to help them. Why do radical plans for helping the world sometimes go so wrong and kill so many?

SOURCES

Edmund Burke quotes are all from "Reflections on the Revolution in France and Other Writings" (Everyman's Library).
“Men little think how immorally they act in rashly meddling with what they do not understand.” - pg 729
“We are afraid to put men to live and trade each on his own private stock of reason; because we suspect that this stock in each man is small, and that the individuals wouldf do better to avail themselves of the general bank and capital of nations and of ages.” - pg 500
"A state without the means of some change is without the means of its conservation" - pg 441
“The true lawgiver ought to have a heart full of sensibility. He ought to love and respect his kind, and to fear himself.” - pg 574

"Edmund Burke" by Jesse Norman is a very useful insight into his life and work.

I'm very much not conservative, but I can appreciate the idea that traditional thinking carries a lot of hidden wisdom that is brought to you 'genetically'. It's clear many people far underestimate the complexities of systems, and respecting the wisdom of time and collectivism is something one should definitely keep in their everyday toolbox. Thanks for the video!

Great video.

But one issue with it: The NHS works?!? Gave me a good chuckle.
