We're well into our 3rd year of full-time motorhome travel around Europe and as with the previous years we take some time to discuss what it cost us. We break it down into accommodation, transport, general expenses, sightseeing, groceries, and dining out.

▬▬▬
ABOUT US:
Welcome! We’re Andre and Lisa. A married South African couple who has been traveling together for almost 20 years, to more than 50 countries. In 2017 we took stock of our life and made the decision to 'retire early'. We gave up our professional careers and all our personal possessions to explore the world as full-time nomads. Over the past three years, we have been traveling through Europe with our 21-year-old Motorhome. Please subscribe to follow along and join us on our adventure!

We make vlogs, not travel guides. We don't film everything we see or do. Our videos cannot tell every story or show every place we visit. Our videos are merely a short snippet of sometimes a week's worth of life on the road and it's intended to show our experience as full-time travelers. As we're constantly on the move it's also not always possible to take the time to research every single location. We really appreciate it when people offer us advice or make suggestions for our next visit. Please don't make assumptions or be rude. To us or to each other.

And it doesn’t cost us viewers anything to join you on your journeys. Thank you very much.

I really enjoy your videos and following your channel, not just because of the excellent content, beautiful presentation and contagious enthusiasm, but also because they way you travel, your priorities and practical approach to everything is very much how I would travel too. And videos like this one is so informative and helpful when planning the big trip, and I can certainly appreciate how organised and well planned your motorhome lifestyle is..
I am Danish but currently living in Australia, and I have particularly enjoyed your videos from Denmark and very much appreciate your kind views and positive comments of our little country.. :-)

Hey André & Lisa, love this video, great info, everybody can take something out of this, do exactly the same as they did or do things maybe differantly next time. For me now I am always writing down our expences in a little notebook, but from now one I will use an excell sheet to have a better insight in our expences so we can make changes earlier if necessary. Thank you en groetjes 😘👋

Hi Andre and lisa, We are loving your videos and look forward to every new video for several years now. We are just past our 60s and are aiming to tour in our 10 year old motorhome, 3 months to start and then follow your lead going full time if all goes to plan . I am aware you have the freedom to travel and visit as you please but our conundrum is we have a mid size dog we love to bits. Would it be possible going forward to add a small section, as to any restrictions or complications it would add to your visits/travels for us dog owners. Just a thought of extra valued information that would help immensely many dog owners plans and confidence in traveling. You have replaced for us good viewing on the telly.

🙏🏼 Thank you for all your hard work putting these numbers together with the very informative & detailed explanation. I like how you essentially offset rising costs by staying at less paid sites to come in less than 2022 expenses, there’s always a way!
All the best,
J&P

Beautifully done Andre & Lisa! Thank you for all your detailed information - a great insight!
Ronnie & I thoroughly enjoy your outlook and feel we would travel in a similar fashion! I love to cook local produce and Rons great at the dishes 😂 We have a bonus as we don’t drink! But would also eat our body weight in pastries 😂😂😂

This is a really fantastic video.
Nicely done. Thoughtful and honest. Talking budgets could be sooo boring, but the time and effort you both have put into this is just great. We really liked the breakdown and the way you separated the motorhome running cost. Tyres, servicing, insurance etc.
We are also full timers (almost 2 years) and it was interesting to see how we compare. We also eat out occasionally and cook fresh. Simple pleasures and take in free venues and nature, with no definite plan and living free.
Thanks Andre and Lisa. Brilliant video. 😊

Off grid really cuts the bill 👍🏻 and having a great cook on board does help too 😂 Really interesting, your numbers!

Very interesting thanks for doing that. I see you’ve painted the wall behind you in a nice dark colour… looks good.

Thanks for spending the time to collate and share with us these stats.
- I didn't realise that you would need to purchase extra insurance for Albania or another country. I assumed that once you were insured and legal to drive in another country that was it.
- Wow, 17 nights off-grid. Very impressive.
- We spent the last two nights in Dublin attending a football match. We parted with over 100 EUROs for dinner for two on Sunday night and over 40 EUROs for breakfast this morning. I need to learn how to
- I love that chocolate has its own segment on the piechart !
- Oh my, I fear that our dining out costs would be crazy. How much does Andre charge per day as a chef ?
- great information on the cell data costs
- I am amazed and glad at how low your LPG costs are. Heating costs in Western Europe are crazy during the winter.
- Can you recommend a Campervan club where you can benefit from group insurance ?
- I actually thought that you weren't going to include health insurance and was thinking about that. Cos... it can be significant. But then you did. Very comprehensive budget breakdown guys.
- your final point, about the other ancillary or lifestyle (living) costs was a good one to make. I was thinking, what about when you need to buy a brolly cos its raining or a new pair of wellies cos its... raining. or a new pair of sunglasses cos you want to show your viewers who might live in colder climes that the warm sun is blinding you. Or, clothes/consumables etc. So, 3 times those itemized costs to me seems fair.

This video is gold dust. And I really mean that. The time, effort, care and attention to detail that you both have spent on summing up all of these items will save people money. The key takeaway for me is that we need to somehow coax Andre away from Lisa for most of the year so that he can maintain our vehicle, cook our breakfast, dinner & tea and then... only then will we be able to afford to be nomadic. I'd say two croissants a day and a nice cold beer in the evening should do it ;-)

Thanks for sharing this last year's costs. I will need to look at your other videos and website to get a better idea of your total costs.

We are looking at doing a 3 month exploring trip during the summer months. While our daughter in on vacation from school. But it's looking like $200-$300 a day for a 90 day or les trip.🤔

I'm sure there is a way to get it down while still enjoying some entertainment and excursions.

Thanks again 😊

You forgot a ‘bits and bobs’ category 😉. I always find that adds up to the most!

I’m glad you added on towards the end all the other costs like insurance, maintenance. Obviously they’re very individual but saying your final costs are about 3 x the daily sounds more realistic.

I saw in another comment that you haven’t monetised - is that correct? I’d be interested to know your reasons as it’s obvious you spend a lot of time on the videos.

Hi Andre & Lisa, Just come across your channel and now back tracking over your previous vlogs. Thank you for pulling all these numbers together with the detailed explanations and information. As I am not really good at excel could I ask is it possible to get a copy off your spreadsheet so that I can track our costs for our first trip in Europe this year. I take it that one of you is a chef that you are able to conjure up some decent meals !
Thanks in advance. Drew & Linda🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Hi there, I found this video very interesting, the number of nights per country, the costs per day, great. I'm not a full timer, but I do the same sort of thing for all my trips in "Kermit". Thanks guys 👍🐸

That’s interesting, in comparison our own budgeting while touring in the USA in our U.K. camper, over the past 11 months: 26550k cost 3500$ in fuel, accommodation 4$ ave per day, sight seeing in 12 National parks subscription to America the Beautiful card 80$ saved 450$ entry fees, insurance for temporarily imported vehicle 1800$, eating out at least 20$ for 2 coffees and a cake lost count!, return shipping Southampton U.K. to Charleston US 8200$ approximately the same as hiring a similar motorhome for 4000$ per month.

Hello Andre and Lisa,

We’re new subscribers and fellow full-time travelers! We’ve spent a few years traveling around Australia and the US in a van, and we’ve recently bought one in Germany and are really excited to start new adventures in Europe!

Brilliant video—so informative! 👏👏 What apps do you use to find free “wild camping” spots in Europe? And do you use an app for budget tracking?

We hope to cross paths somewhere in the world someday!
