Where I live the natural minimum wage is already about 18-20 an hour. No one’s working for less right now. Legislation isn’t the answer to everything

I’d love to see a poll of small business owners supporting or opposing this bill

If small businesses support higher minimum wages they would already be paying them that much.

$18 minimum wage is the type of idea that someone who has never owned a business would think is a good idea. Also, as a business owner, if every employee becomes this expensive, I am only going to employ people with higher skill sets and experience. This is so bad for low skill/experience workers

If 18 dollars is living wage, the next day it will need to increase because the cost of living would have increased by that much

It's OBVIOUS that none if the commentators from the hill has ever had a business of their own or ran one.
As someone who moved their business out of Calif because of the unfriendly business policies, I hope you guys get this - then you can watch more businesses close their doors and/or move out.
Then when you have 50% unemployment I can watch idiots like 'ryan' cry about it.

He needs to clarify, they will have more money to buy more expensive services. Let’s call BS on upping the minimum wage reduces business expense, If that were true there’s nothing stopping them from raising wages right now.

I would've guessed that the reality of cost increases on the back of spiking inflation plus a well supplied unskilled labor workforce supplemented by illegals and increasing automation would've been key to keeping wages low. If you're suggesting that politicians should dictate what labor is worth as opposed to the market then you're part of the problem.

Rising owes us an explanation of what happened to Kim Iverson

So he just got to say his piece and leave? He didn’t answer a single hard or substantial question. Like how are businesses expected to pay their workers MORE during a recession? Oh yeah; charge their customers more. No problem, they all have more money cuz their wages just went up!

How did that help the problem?

He makes it sound so simple and good for the employer. 🤦‍♀️

Unironically, these very same dems will say that inflation is not their fault.

Raising the minimum wage is so good for small businesses owners that they just can’t wait to be forced to pay it??? This guy’s delusional.

Unsubscribed after 2 years of following the Hill because they didn’t allow Kim to interview Fauci.

You can't raise wages to make rent more affordable. That's not how the market works. You're confusing cause and effect. You don't need the minimum wage to be very high. That will cause even higher inflation and chase business out of the state reducing employment. You need to let some of the air out of the housing market so rent isn't so unaffordable that people working low wage jobs need that much to live in the counties where there are jobs. Raising the minimum wage will just inflate rent and house prices even more. California's minimum wage is already double the federal minimum, which is one of the reasons why the median home price in the state is already over $800, 000.

Classic Ryan Grim segment “Dems are idiots and here’s why” and then fast forward to voting time. Ryan grim “you have to vote for Dems”

The Hill is hardly worth watching without Kim Iversen.

Emily, why don’t you defend why constitutional conservatives reject any government intervention in wage control?

What about a constitutional right to start a business and have the freedom to negotiate with citizens without “mob rule” dictating what you have to pay !!!?!?
Businesses are CITIZENS! What about citizens freedom to enter into commerce without the government dictating what labor rates it must pay!!!?

If small businesses favor a hike in the minimum and it would reduce their costs, why aren't they paying them more now? The only businesses for this are the ones already paying much higher than the minimum who want to raise costs on smaller competitors who can't afford workers at a higher price. I wish they pushed back more on this hack.
