I’m good. I bought a 2024 Cx-5 and opted out of that option. I bought a trunk storage thing for groceries etc for $40. I’m very happy with it.

My Mazda3 BK from 2007 had this option too and it was very convenient. However After some time I put it off because the covers on the sides on the car where this thing is supposed to rest were not designed to hold that extra weight and started to make very loud and unpleasant noises when the car were moving, especially on roads with small constant bumps etc. This were the case even if I had nothing stored on it at all.

Yeah, Mercedes had something similar in 2009 they had a foldable box that was attached in the boot.

OEM Shelf dividers cost the same so having storage is neat.

My PT Cruiser had the best.

Package shelf had 2 positions for high or low storage and a leg to cantilever to make a table for tailgating.

It should be spring loaded with a hard plastic top and come up with a slightly angled wine rack to hold the things you don’t want rolling around in your trunk.

What is the point? The volume does not change. Instead of 100% trunk you get 90% trunk and 10% box.
You need to take out the box anyway to transport something big.
