Gabby Petito's Mom Reacts To Body Cam Footage Featuring Brian Laundrie

As the search for Brian Laundrie continues, Gabby Petito's parents are speaking out in a brand-new interview with "60 Minutes Australia." "I worried. I told her to be careful, but I felt safe because she was with Brian … I thought he would take care of her," Gabby's mother Nicole Schmidt told the outlet. She reacted to the police body cam interview of Gabby and Brian a month into their road trip, saying, "It's just hard to watch. I wanted to jump through the screen and rescue her."

Coming from a marriage that was very much around domestic violence and being able to get away from my ex-husband with that this touches home and I really hope that the foundation they're creating in her name helps so many other women or men that are in that kind of problem

When I saw how small she was trying to make herself in Moab, I knew. Survivor myself, and I recognized the body language Gabby was projecting. When our law enforcement and first responders are trained to see the signs, perhaps they will save the precious "Gabbys" instead of threatening to arrest them. Rest easy, sweetie.

We need to teach everyone that love is not belittling, calling someone names, not respecting boundaries, controlling someone. Physical violence always starts with emotional abuse. When your gut tells you something feels off or wrong - it is! Love is to feel safe and respected and to be who you are.

What happened to Gabby is the worst thing that a mother will ever have to live through having such a beautiful young lady killed by someone she trusted and the family trusted is unforgivable. I think the Gabby Petito foundation will be a big catalyst for moving things forward for protecting victims. It's clear the family heard the outcry of people wishing that same energy was spent on other missing women especially BIPOC.... and it looks like they're prepared to make it happen. Bless them... P.S. I cry and I am very emotional, just like Gabriel. It breaks my heart ! She might still be alive, if the police were more educated in DV .They gave him the green light to abuse her further and it cost her her life! People with emotional abuse become broken and will believe it is there fault. I am still confused at times battling him telling me I am wrong, It's all my fault, I am a bad person no one likes or loves me . And I am on SSDI and don't work because I am too stressed and crying at times. Tred to go back to work 3 times and had to leave because I couldn't stop crying. everytime. I can't talk to anyone anymore since my parents passed my family is mean and nasty to me . Jealous because I don't work and they still treat me with bullying just like when we were kids .So I have to block them, because they took all my mom and dads stuff and left me nothing. And my husband has them on his side along with our son . My husband got me pregnant at 15 and he was 19 .This was his second child he had one before when he was 17. I have had years of therapy from my upbringing and all the abuse I endured over the years. And when I tried to leave my mother wouldn't let me come back home. I never had anymore children because I didn't believe he was a good partner or parent .I never got support from him .He is a alcoholic.
