Step by step Media Tour Process 👇
1. Pick Your City
Entrepreneurs get confused about *which* city to start with.
Here’s the formula to make it easy:
Pick a major city that checks three boxes:
✅ Your audience lives there
✅ You have at least *one* warm connection
✅ It’s big enough to matter (skip the small ponds)
Let’s say 10% of your Instagram followers are in Austin — that’s your starting point.
Then ask: “Do I know someone in Austin who knows everyone?”
That one connector can change the game.
No connector? No problem.
Just post: “I’m planning a media tour in [CITY], who should I meet?”
Let the network work for you.
1. Build Your List
Now that you’ve picked your city, time to build your *dream tour*.
Use these hacks to build the list:
✅ Research: Use Chartable + Spotify to find top podcasts in the area.
✅ Studio Owners: Message podcast studio owners. They know who’s hot.
✅ List Helpers: Save the names of anyone who can make intros. You’ll need them in Step 3.
1. Start Outreach
Now the real work starts.
Use the Hot, Warm, and Cold method to get a “yes.”
🔥 HOT = Friend
☀️ WARM = Knows of you
❄️ COLD = Doesn’t know you (yet)
Here’s the script:
Hot → “Can you intro me to [Podcast Host]?”
Warm → “I love your show — would love to be a guest when I’m in town.”
Cold → “Big fan of your recent episode on X. I’ll be in [CITY] on these dates. Want to collab?”
Outreach Hacks:
✅ Do the Research: Know *why* you’re a fit and what topic would land.
✅ Play Small to Big: Start with mid-tier shows. Stack momentum.
✅ Offer Value First: It’s not about you — it’s about *what you bring* to their audience.
