Показать описание
The compositions of trumpeter Woody Shaw can be seen to exist as part of a continuum which includes composers such as Miles Davies, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, McCoy Tyner, and Herbie Hancock. Shaw’s own particular sound as a composer is a result of the way in which he extrapolated from and expanded upon contemporary compositional techniques prevalent in both jazz and classical music. “Multi-Tonics” is a harmonic system that achieves the same “gravity” of the major and minor diatonic systems while also giving the improviser freedom to play outside sounds without crossing into the territory of atonality.

A lecture by Josh Rager, Assistant Professor at Concordia University's Music Department (Montreal)

Thank you for this! I use some
Of these concepts in my music as well. It is the best of times, it is the worst of times. Best because we have so much information available to us 🐬

Great, thanks. I play sax but have certainly learned a lot of Woody´s solos. I come from his generation.
