Qatar is suspending efforts to secure a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.

Sky News UK’s Alastair Bunkall says ceasefire talks since November 2023 had taken place in Doha and had “repeatedly failed”.

“This move is potentially one to try and jolt Hamas into agreeing to some sort of deal,” Mr Bunkall said.

“Hamas will probably now go to either Turkey … or they could go to Tehran.

“Neither side was prepared to engage properly and meaningfully in talks.”
