He strings his 12 "Rickenbacker" style, i.e. with the octave strings on the bottom.  I saw his doing that on the Return Of The Champions video and emailed him about it on his web site  He responded(!!) saying he didn't know that that was Rickenbacker style.  He said he did it that way so the higher strings would be emphasized as he fingerpicked Love of My Life.
