Did the IDF use a Trebuchet on the border with Lebanon?

Yes, the video is real. This is actually a good example of the limitations of AI. Artificial intelligence can only work with training data that it has. And it can’t make the kind of connections as in fire is hot and dangerous so you should have a fire extinguisher nearby..

Apparently the reservists are taking it upon themselves to come up with solutions to things they think the army isnt giving enough attention, so theyve been using different (slightly silly for fun sake) ideas to burn said bushes, including bows and arrows, home made launchers with bottles of oil, and yes - the trebuchet 😂

Bored soldiers, minimal supervision, and a task to accomplish… insert soldier creativity and you get a trebuchet

Seems legit to me and hilarious!

This is 200% a case of bored soldiers wanting to make a trebuchet and justifying it later

Alright so the Swiss have a robot excavator with a grapple and it uses LIDAR to survey the area and pick suitable pieces for wall building. It can build a wall 10m high, just using debris and rubble. So theoretically could also pick up and load properly sized pieces onto a trebuchet. See where I'm going with this? Automated siege machine?

There was an interview published just yesterday. The reservists responsible are on their 40s, and the guy helmung the idea said, "the government has no balls, so we openned Google and built a trebuchet". Literal citation. These guys printed some DIY sheets fro Google How To or something like that, and built it. 😂

Well a trebuchet makes more sense than the Rambo arrows with whatever ordinance was loaded on the tip .

This is what you get when you take a bunch of nerdy engineers who played way too much AoE2 growing up, and stick them in reserve duty for months at a time at a reasonably quiet border. Also, it's basically an effect of, "you guys need to clear this foliage. No you can't use artillery. No, you aren't given flamethrowers. No, the Air Force isn't gonna come help with incendiary ordinance or white phosphorous. Yes, you'll have to go to the other side of this wall that stops the bullets the guys on the other side are shooting at you to do it. No we don't have budget for burning-oil-bucket carrying drones. Just think of something!"

And so Yossi, Motti, and Danny thought of something. And it was glorious.

The thing with really old machines, is that usually only the best designs for those machiens survived the thousand years since it was invented.

Just to emphasize how bored reservists get - me and 4 buddies came to a training exercise (IAF) and our pen gets awful cell reception. We got bored and constructed a makeshift totem pole out of chairs, blankets and random junk in the pen's parking and started goofing around it to some tribal music. Fast forward to a mess officer delivering food seeing this and reporting it to our CO. That is how we're among the select few in the IDF that were disciplined for idolatry (just a minor fine, and our CO and the pen chief were on the verge of bursting out laughing during the entire process)
