What is Habeas Corpus? [legal terminology explained]

A writ of Habeas Corpus is an order of the Court commanding someone who has a person in custody to bring that person before the Court.
The legal concept of Habeas Corpus has taken centre stage in the United States government administration of US President Donald J. Trump and its push to deport immigrants under the Alien Enemies Act who are deemed part of an invasion by foreign gangs and are being deported to a foreign prison in El Salvador. Those immigrants facing deportation had their situation adjudicated in part by the US Supreme Court and a judicial decision as to where a petition for Habeas Corpus may be brought and the sufficiency of that petition to protect the limited rights of an alleged criminal illegal immigrant.
