So subtle and much unspoken. If this was made today, it would be an overwrought, melodramatic scene where she jumps on the train in floods of tears or he stays for her. No, they both know what is impossible

Great scene. Sad she had to return to that terrible marriage that will never survive. But it was cool of her to go to the train station and say goodbye to her friend.

Boy only him and Patricia Highsmith can take Train Scenes and make them so poignant. Remember in Carol, Therese went Home on The Commuter Train back to New York and her Apt thinking she'd never see Carol again. On the other hand, Patricia Highsmith can take a Train and make it so bone Chilling. From The Talented Mr. Ripley, Ripley's Game and Strangers On A Train, she is a wizard. Also, Carol was based on The Patricia Highsmith Book The Price Of Salt.
