Is boxing more dangerous than MMA? 🖊💭👇

You hear of deaths within boxing all too often.. and yet never in MMA..

Joe Rogan & Steve-O discuss cte and boxing on the Jre

The data suggests so, more rounds, more punches to the head, the counts, although MMA looks more brutal boxing when you look into it is MUCH more dangerous.

What Do you think? 🤔

Trust me those gloves make a big difference. I actually boxed a lot in the past for actual boxing gyms and that “thudding” blow is way worse because the impact of those big heavy gloves rocking your brain back and forth in your skull isn’t good at all

In mma if ur knocked out its over ref jumps in to stop it, in boxing if you get knocked out ur encouraged to get back up and keep fighting. This is for sure one of the main reasons boxing has deaths u can literally get several huge career ending kos in a single fight.

Steve O being concerned about people dying from their profession is crazy..

It’s actually not the gloves. Some boxing promotions around the world use MMA style gloves and have seen deaths. Researchers from Manchester University said it’s probably second hit syndrome. In MMA you can follow the opponent down after you rocked them and finish them-not to mention lots of MMA fighters just wrestler/grapple and look for submission.
Boxing you can Rock an opponent but if they get up you can keep concussing their brain leading to higher chance of internal bleeding

Also a lot safer to get kicked, KO'd and then stopped, than to eat 200+ shots, going down two or three times and getting back up to continue eating those shots.

Not to mention the amount of punches taken to the head over time.

It's the 10 count every time they get up from a count they're risking brain damage one second in MMA and it's over

Have you been to a heavy weight title fight? I have a few friends who were six rows out watching Tyson fight. They were getting hit with sweat that far away when Tyson was hitting. That won't happen in a mma fight. They couldn't believe how hard they were hitting each other, the sound of it. I guarantee you if they had mma gloves on Tyson would have killed ALOT of people. There's a big difference in 18 oz gloves, that we used in the bad man contest which I fought in, and 16 oz gloves which pro boxers use. Boxers hit fkng hard as hell bro, trust me

MMA: grappling, submissions, kicks, takedowns, punch.
Boxing: keep punching the head, sometimes the body.

I think the biggest one is getting knocked down where they aren’t moving for a couple seconds than they get up get knocked down again 9/10 times then do it again and get knocked down . When an mma guy gets rocked like that they stop the fight . Which makes more sense cause in a real world scenario the fight is usually gonna be lost as soon as you get rocked like that . The person isn’t gonna let you up 3 more times

There’s also the countdown rule difference. Mma fights are usually over when you’re brain goes spaghetti in boxing you can get punished more to the brain.

It’s mainly from the amount of times that boxers will fight even when they are concussed. A lot and I mean a lot of boxers will not even remember a latter half of a fight because they got hit too hard and potentially have a concussion. In mma you get rocked and sometimes you will start to grapple and not get hit repeatedly or they get rocked get punched while on the ground and the fight ends. A boxer will continue to fight off of instinct because that’s how a good boxer is trained, but that boxer can get some very serious brain damage and not even know it.

It’s also in boxing once your knocked down real hard you have the option of getting back up and most people do because if they don’t they lose. In mma if you knock someone unconscious to the ground it’s usually over.

Hey, ex amateur boxer with 32-0 record at junior heavyweight that now trains mma with hopes to become professional here.

Single biggest contributor to this is combination of two things, imho one being bigger than the other but that’s up to personal opinion and in case by case basis.
1. 10 standing count. You can get knocked out and get up in 10s and you are good to go. That won’t happen in mma.
2. It’s boxing so you only punch, so all the points you can score is thru punches so you are always being damaged. It usually is continuous blunt force trauma to the head.

Exactly why I stopped boxing. Although, it was my favorite sport. My brother played college ball and concussions permanently changed his life, I decided it wasn't worth the risk.

For amateurs or people who don’t understand anything about fighting. Cuts look more dangerous, but getting punched over and over again but not get knocked out is a million times worse. Don’t box people, it’s not great for defense, health or anything other than just for conditioning.

💡🙏🤔 It’s the accumulation of head strikes in boxing 🥊 over a long period of time ... and in MMA there are so many different ways to win ...submission . KO, ref, stoppage and there is NO 10 count or standing 8 in MMA like there is in boxing .... the most rounds you fight in MMA is 5 And that’s Championship or Marquee matches ... 🥋MMA is a brutal sport but much Safer then Boxing

I had a massive personality change after my last concussion. Took till this year to fully understand that it did after a lot of reflection. I didn’t remember a lot of people after that impact so I just wrote them off as strangers including my family and friends. This year I’ve just began trying to be social again now that I’m aware of what patterns to discern in my mind and behavior. It was quite depressing that night like a wave of realizations.

The difference is boxing makes you stand back up after getting tkoed

I think it’s because the ref stoppage vs boxing they take less damage before it’s over
