More Deets:
If hindsight were 20/20 I don't know if we would have done half the things we have done.

Four years ago, we bought a boat and set out to explore the world with absolutely no sailing experience. Experts and novices all around the world wide web told us we would fail, sink, and die.

Well, surprise, surprise, we’re still alive!  Turns out you CAN just go buy a boat and sail about the world.

BUT…that doesn’t mean it’s been easy.

To say we had (and still have) a lot to learn is an understatement.   Knowing we were clueless, we made a video so we would be able to one day reflect on our newbie expectations and compare them to reality.

Looking back at our peculiar beginning now is both comical and endearing.  We really had no idea what was ahead of us. We thought our RV experience would help…and it did…but there is sooo much more to boat life than we could comprehend.

Currently, we’re stuck in isolation in Fiji.  Restrictions and closures keep us from exploring so we’ve been sifting through years of videos, mistakes, misadventures, and victories.  Asking ourselves, if we could go back in time what advice would we give ourselves, what would we want to know?

So, if hindsight is 20/20, here it is, the realities of living on a sailboat. The stuff we wished we would've known before we bought a boat, and set off around the world.

WHO ARE WE?
We’re Jason and Nikki Wynn. We been living #OffTheGrid and exploring the world for almost a decade.
Our first six years of #travel were an epic road trip around North America.
Now we’re on a #sailing voyage about the world. Did we have any previous sailing experience, of course not!
Neither of us is overly talented, smart, rich, lucky, or retired. But that doesn’t stop us from reaching far-flung destinations, having wild adventures, and managing everything that makes living aboard a moving vessel possible.
We’re two ordinary people that just so happen to live an extraordinary life.
Because... Life is an adventure!
Extraordinary moments out there for anyone willing, and wanting, to go after it. Ya know life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
And this is why we publish our lives on the world wide web. We share in hopes of inspiring you to find your adventure.

Shared with LOVE 💕

When living in Phoenix it was my dream to move on the water. That was 30 years ago. Something else always seemed to take the place of my dream. The last few years my health started to decline, so the dream died with my rapid approach to the big exit. I now live vicariously through your adventures. Never waste a day losing your youth and doing what you want in life or like me, you'll live to regret it.

You guys are so courageous. 99.99% of people are so afraid to break out from same-ol-everyday life thing that they end up spending entire life doing the same thing over and over. And unfortunately, I am one of those 99.99% of people.
Love your youtube channel, I have been watching for last 4 years. I've been looking for RV but still haven't raised enough courage to even do part time RV'ing.
I envy you guys.

As a person who lived for two decades on boats in the Caribbean, I feel that you nailed it with this video. In the beginning, the obstacles of the lifestyle can be daunting. To overcome this, I personally followed a simple mantra: If something has been invented by a fellow Homo Sapiens, I might not be smart enough to invent something of equal importance. But: I insist that I will be able to UNDERSTAND what this fellow human has created and I will be able to service and repair it! The cruising lifestyle is addictive, because it gets the best out of us. There are no cruising losers!

oh yea... not as easy as some may think, that is for sure... same goes on anything, bus, van, car.. it all needs service and attention, always tweaking. love this.

I think someone said:
Life at sea is to fix your boat in the most beautyful places on Earth.

Another great video! The quote “Success is 99% attitude and 1% aptitude” really fits you guys, I believe you would be successful at what ever you do, especially at communicating. Thank you.

If you don't physically help someone. Think about how your YouTube channel will help people.
One way or another you both are helping people everyday. So thank you for your help.
With out your help, some of us might just stay stuck.

You're hitting nails here! I've got almost 40 years of experience and when someone asks me what to expect when sailing or spending time on a boat, my answer is: You can plan and prepare, but expect the unexpected. Great insights you're sharing guys!

When you mentioned becoming "handy", I immediately thought of the AK incident. Nikki, you HAVE TO admit Jason has totally upped his repair skills.

One of the many things I enjoy about your videos is, you don't hide the "issues/mistakes/undocumented features" of life, AND you take us along so we can learn "something" about it....not saying I can get in there and change out the black water tank, but you get the idea. Besides, it's fun watching others handle their issues, takes you away from your own for 20-30 minutes a week. Keep on doing what you both do!

You guys are seriously living the dream, and such an inspiration seeing how far you've come in the last four years ❤️

I love the honesty! I'm starting to plan now, and I'm not wealthy, so real experiences from others before me really helps me to set real expectations. I'll be the guy doing all or most of the work himself. Thanks for sharing your story!

Reality is you two are in a very nice part of the world. Your statements clearly define a commitment to work, worry and expand you knowledge.
The payback is a profound fantasy of exploration, freedom to a life of happiness . Be safe n get a ride back to your boat.

The first sail boat I owned was an O’Day 27’ on Lake Michigan & no we didn’t know how to sail. I literally learned from books & other people. We ended up doing 2 week Cruises & racing our various boats in 4 Chicago Macs 😊

I relate to all of this. You just summed up our life for the last year. First boat, never been sailing, outfitted with davit, solar, water, batteries, sailing school, prepping for the journey, pet permits, fixing everything!! This is SO spot on for what life is really like on a boat. Great video!
