:::About This Episode:::

Ok... this is Episode 5 of the Scott's Bass Lessons Podcast, and this week I'm sitting down with Warren Huart... who is NOT a bass player... arrrggghhh, shock... horror! ;)

In all seriousness though, there's some HUGE take-aways during this interview. In an upcoming SBL Podcast episode with Sean Hurley (John Mayer, Robin Thicke), Sean drops a bomb shell - he says that soooo many of the great gigs he's held in the past and right now are due to specifically having good relationships with producers. i.e. those are the guys that do a lot of the hiring a recommending! He goes into the specifics about this in great detail, but you'll have to wait for that future episode... it's coming soon ;)

The reason I'm sharing this, is that in this interview Warren not only talks about his past, and how he ended up in LA acting as producer for the likes of Aerosmith, Daniel Powter and James Blunt, but also what he specifically looks for when hiring bass players, what will get you permanently struck off the 'hire list', and why he believes there's no such thing as good luck.

If you hit it off with the studio engineer you will have more work both in and out of the studio because he knows everyone.

How does one start getting session work? I'm a relatively new/young bassist in LA, I've had a couple of pretty decent gigs playing live but would love to start getting into sessions as well. Any tips on that Scott/Warren/Anyone? Thanks!

I think that's the Million Dollar question, how to break into the scene? if guys always call who they are familiar with, then whomever is not in that circle of that genre, are out back to some degree. it's really tough and it cause one to focus on their own music.
