I just recently received the Shot Scope V5 and haven't even had the chance to use it yet for golfing. Instead, I've been using it as an everyday watch and I'm glad that you mentioned that it automatically shuts off after 30 min. of inactivity as I couldn't find that info anywhere else. I also ordered those screen protectors too. My first impression is that I wish the display was a lot brighter, but I'm getting used to the screen now. Shot Scope is also in the process of adding a course in my area that wasn't listed, so that's nice of them after my request. Overall, as my first golf watch and as something that I want to wear everyday, I'm quite happy with the V5.

X5 left a lot to be desired, started shutting off randomly in the middle of my rounds after it got wet in a rainstorm. Thought battery was dead but when I plugged it in, it still had at least 50%. I sent it back to Shotscope and they sent me a replacement that i haven't used yet. The V3 was so much better.

Thanks very much for this review of both. I have the X5 and before that the V3. I have enjoyed the X5 and with each update new features make it a better watch. I have not yet been able to use the X5 watch this season with the hole map so I am looking forward to that new feature. I had been interested to see if an upgrade was worthwhile from the X5 but based upon your review I see no need to at this stage simply due to battery issues. I rarely use the touch screen anyway and simply rotate the crown button and click in to make it easier than having to touch the watch face.

The X5 desperately needs the rain mode update. I've said this since it was released. It's the only thing that lets this great watch down for me.. I've played well over 50+ rounds with it.. and that would probably be 80+ rounds if it worked with rain droplets on the screen instead of freezing. It's major big let down if you play in all weathers like myself (especially uk weather).

Other than that the watch has been amazing.. personally I've had no missed shot data, gps works fast and finds courses easily.. and the firmware uodates are always quick and easy to follow. The new course maps are spot on too, and even showed the new bunkers we've had. 👏 👏.

It's just that lack of bloody rain mode.. c'mon shotscope sort it out 👍

I have a V3, an X5, and now have added a V5. The V3 is clunky looking, has a bit of a clumsy interface, and it misses a lot of shots, but it has a long battery life (enough for at least 2 rounds), and it just works. The X5 is much improved in terms of not missing many shots, but the X5 battery life is abysmal. I never ran out in a single round, but i did get under 10% left a couple of times. Also, sometimes, for no explicable reason, after I charged it the night before, I get to the course only to find 0% battery life, requiring me to pull out the trusty V3, which never lets me down.

I had a love-hate relationship with the X5. While I liked that it didn't miss many shots, I despised the touch screen. The touch screen was locked whenever I wanted to use any watch feature, so I had to unlock it many, many times per round. The only time it was unlocked by default was when I was on the green, the one time I absolutely did not want it unlocked! I regularly put my hand behind my back to read putts, or when watching others putt, which would cause the X5 to record 2-putt pars, and record the pin as being at some strange location. Worse, the touch screen did not work at all in the rain. I rate both the V3 and the X5 about 2.6 stars out of 5. Both were usable, but flawed.

What about the V5? I have used it for two rounds now, and I absolutely love it! It looks good. It has all the best features of the V3 and the X5, and none of the bad features of either. Like the V3, it has good battery life. Like the X5, it doesn't miss many shots. Unlike the V3 it keeps score and has graphical pictures of the holes. Unlike the X5, there is no screen to constantly unlock, and it doesn't record erroneous putting information. I love everything about the V5, and I have no complaints about it whatsoever. I give the V5 a solid 5 stars. The only way that they can improve on it is to make another generational leap in the accuracy of the sensors so that the V5 misses no shots whatsoever.

Great job, ShotScope!

Bought a V5 and stopped using it after 6 rounds because the tracking sucks. Missed shots and entire holes made this too frustrating to keep using. Looking at getting an H4 where at least it tells me when it has registers the club.

I Recently purchased the V5, initially i had issues connecting the watch to the app. I must admit it was so frustrating that I nearly sent it back for a refund!! There is a knack to get it to connect each time. 1. Close the app, turn off watch, turn off Bluetooth. 2. In this order: Turn on watch, Then turn on Bluetooth, Then open app and connect. So far in my experience it connects every time using this method (I was instructed to do this method by the shot scope help team who have been fantastic and very responsive). Although the touch screen on the X5 seems like a great idea it was a fail, the buttons on the side are far more users friendly on the V5.

Andy -

Do you know if the Shot Scope putter sensor needs a special attachment for Super Stroke putter grips? I am a former Arccos user and I needed to purchase a special attachment for the putter sensor due to the SS grip.

Hey Andy, good video again. Did you ever make a video on the shot scope stats, in particular putting? My make percentage for 1-2 meter putts is at 36% but according to my hcp 15 target average should be 57%. Isn't that awfully high for that hcp bracket? I was thinking, isn't the way Shot scope records putts (manual or not) not influencing this statistic big time, or (god forbid) the phenomena of 4 foot gimme's? Don't get me wrong, I certainly don't rule out that I am simply godawful from anywhere between 4 and 10 feet.... :-)

V5 all the way. X5 touch screen would stop responding on certain parts of the screen, couldn’t make changes to holes and was annoying. Plus the V5 is cheaper.

Hi Andy
I asked a question about distance measures on the X5 watch on the Shotscope Facebook page, but something went wrong and froze me out, probably me? Anyway, I tried to upload a screenshot from my app, which showed using the watch from our range bay at my home course. I had just bought the X5 so was logging in (play golf ) at my course. Went on the range and hit a 100 balls as usual. Then noticed later on that it had recorded a shot from the range, but from the first tee to the range bay, then another shot from the range bay onto the 1st Green and 2 putts, hence my original question on Facebook. Can you explain, please?

Hi do you think the X5 will be replaced with a newer version before i purchase one. Also when will the issue in the rain be resolved?

I have had my V5 for over a week now, but haven't managed to get it working properly yet. I have been in touch with Shot Scope but thay haven't managed to sort it yet. When I switch it on, it asks me to connect it to the Shot Scope Mobile app. I have the app as I have been using the V3, but the V5 doesn't appear in the list of watches in the app. I don't know how to bypass this stage so I can use it as a watch, and I obviously haven't been able to use it on the course yet. Very frustrating. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

Hi Andy my question is unrelated to this video but i would like some guidance please. I have today received my x5 Shotscope watch and i want to ask about the tags that are supplied with the watch. I have them connected and they are reading fine. There are two clubs in question ie my 5w and 7w which do not have a corresponding tag, but i have allocated 3w tag assigned to 5w and H2 assigned to 7w. When i perform a tag read they are read as 3w and H2. My query is when i take to the course will the watch in the case of 3w and H2 display 5w and 7w or 3w and H2. Sorry if i have confused you but i simply want the watch to display the correctly assigned clubs to each tag.

The screen protector that you show in the video is way too big for the X5. They are cut to the size of the bezel not the screen.
