rule 0 for ALL jobs: if you want to play it, play it. the game's casual content is meant to be widely accessible. the only thing stopping you is the final push. at least go visit the starting guild, do a quick unlock, and mull it over. if it unlocks at a high level, the following job quests might help introduce you to the job's kit, too. if you're at least curious to know more, beyond hitting a dummy for 30 minutes straight, try entering a leveling roulette to put in some practice.

Black Mage has the most satisfying booms. The real trick isn't knowing when to move out of a mechanic, but knowing when to stand in the mechanic and KEEP BLASTIN FOOLS.

My favorite thing about black mage is how steady the rotation is. Going from fire to ice and back again feels like clockwork, it's very relaxing.

As a black mage i always appreciate when your teammates work around you. Sometimes you get really tunnel visioned when you are in fire phase and pushing out the deeps.

Quad casting Flares and Finishing it off with double Foul on a huge mob pulls WHILE also staying on laylines....is the peak pinnacle and proudest feeling i've ever felt playing as a black mage...

Did the entire MSQ on Black Mage, there was never any other competition for my first job. Getting close to finishing levelling the other jobs now and every time I go back to black mage the adjustment period is never all that long and the job just feels clean as Hell.

I got to say, i always enjoy when you post BLM videos, you're the reason i played blm in the first place >.<
It was so painful to level up that job. After a bit i dropped it, but then i saw your videos (and glamour, it played a big part >.>) and now here i am, playing blm in all content i can, trying to min max potions in a complicated rotation even though i could clear the fights with normal plays xD

Despi here reminding me how much I simp for FFX's Lulu.
I started playing BLM about a month or two ago and got it to level 80, and I've had a ton of fun with it, though it's undoubtedly the hardest job I've played so far.
I more recently levelled RDM up to 80 and I love that job too (my SMN is already 90), definitely much easier, but fun and flashy.
This video is making me want to return to Black Mage today, take it through the Endwalker content and push it to 90.

Love my black mage. They aren’t 90 yet but due to having gone through most of the content on other jobs it has been an absolute….blast….leveling it. You just feel powerful as you go through your rotation and hitting that triplecast in your fire phase while pushing those big numbers feels amazing.
Some people really will go out of their way to help you ABC (for example dohn megh second boss I have had multiple people break me out of that little prison before I even started to target it myself). Small example but the point is there I think. Love class, love the strategy behind it. Glad I stopped being scared to try it and just went and did it.

I honestly see Summoner, Red Mage, and Black Mage more like different specs of the same class rather than different classes. I’m using the word class here over Job, because Job conveys flavor whereas class conveys a specialized toolkit. In general, Summoner allows for the greatest flexibility, Red Mage the greatest support, and Black Mage the greatest optimization… all using elemental magic.

I love the black mage for it's difficulty, especially in high-end content. It sucks when groups don't want to work with it, but it feels so good when everything comes together. I hope it never gets reworked to be easier, it's the most well-designed job imo.

I love this job more than the other casters but sadly, I die too much when I play new content and my healers won’t resurrect me because they hate black mages. Unfortunately black mage is the only dps I like but it’s too hard even after months of practice.

I’ve been maining crit Black mage for the current savage tier and it’s the first time I’ve been playing a DPS class in Ex/Savage content. I’ve recently been trying out some Red Mage in the same content, but I’m struggling a bit.
Maybe it is just just me, but currently I feel like Black Mage has more or at least the same mobility than Red Mage. As Black I have two stacks of Triple Cast, two Stacks of Xenoglossy, with proper use of sharpcast I always have a Thunder proc, most of the times a Fire 3 proc, Aetherial Manipulation, Between the Lines and last but not least, Swiftcast. The most important aspect, I can hold on to one charge of Triple and Xeno until I’m about to overcap. So it gives me a ton of options.
On the other hand Red Mage has Flèche, Contre Sixte, two stack of Dual Cast (which only works for the next spell, as opposed to triple cast), the Melee combo, two stacks of acceleration, two stacks corps-a-Corps, two stacks displacement and of course Swiftcast. Out of these it is advised to use Flèche and Contre sixte, on CD, and the melee combo should be used as soon as it becomes available. That leaves me with acceleration, corps-a-corpse, displacement, Swiftcast and I could hold on to my melee combo a bit longer, assuming I can be in melee range.

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy red mage, but I’m having a lot more trouble in Endsinger Ex as red than on black mage.
Maybe someone can give some advice.

I don't care what people can think of this class, i play with this class since the 1.0 and i'll continue to play it.

although im a sam main, i have to say black mage is probably my favorite job in any mmo. although i dont agree that its really difficult. with all the instant cast flex options in endwalker, outside of ultimates its very chill to play even at a mid-purple parsing level. you have to have about the same encounter knowledge as a healer when it comes to knowing when its best to use specific cooldowns and perfecting your slidecasting

I just leveled summoner to 90 and even tho I LOVE the job, I definitely am interested in leveling my black mage. Currently at 78. Even through the trial and tribulations the job brings
