For a short moment there in the beginning, Gigi almost forgot that she was not doing the singing part because she came out of the gate sounding gentle, composed and calm. But then I thought about it more and realized that she’s re-enacting the story in her performance, not just reciting the rap lyrics. She is emoting the words through her cadence as she gets more into the rant, venting and expressing ever so furiously the frustrations in the relationship. Gigi was simply building up the argument with her delivery, throwing a knockout punch in the end as she fiercely utters the last few lines. Just when you thought you have Gigi and the Vibes figured out, they exceed our expectations once again with this remarkable cover. Big shoutout to Oyus, the unsung (who sang very well) madman on guitar and vocals. Keep it up, guys! Maybe cover Eminem’s “The Monster” or “Lose Yourself” as well, and keep Gigi doing the rap part. She really comes alive and very animated as she progressively finds her groove.
