When Calls the Heart is an American television drama series, inspired by Janette Oke's book of the same name from her Canadian West series, and developed by Michael Landon Jr. The series began airing on the Hallmark Channel in the United States on January 11, 2014,[1] and, in Canada, on April 16, 2014, on Super Channel.[2]

The series originated from a two-hour television movie pilot in October 2013, starring Maggie Grace as young teacher Elizabeth Thatcher and Stephen Amell as Royal North-West Mounted Police officer Wynn Delaney.[3] In the television series Erin Krakow plays the lead role alongside an ensemble cast.

On March 21, 2018, Hallmark renewed the series for a sixth season. The season premiered with a two-hour Christmas special that was broadcast as part of Hallmark's Countdown to Christmas event, and was to continue for a 10-episode run starting in February 2019.[4] However, due to the 2019 college admissions bribery scandal involving Loughlin and her subsequent removal from all Hallmark properties, the season was put on a "retooling" hiatus and resumed in May to conclude in June, with Loughlin's scenes edited out.

When Calls the Heart tells the story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high-society life. She receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coal-mining town in Western Canada which is located just south of Robb, Alberta. There, life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Royal North-West Mounted Police Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). He believes Thatcher's wealthy father has doomed the lawman's career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate's daughter. Wishing to thrive in this 1910 coal town, Elizabeth must learn the ways of the Canadian frontier.[9]

Abigail Stanton's (Lori Loughlin) husband (the foreman of the mine), her only son, and 45 other miners, were killed in an explosion, due to the mining-company site manager's irresponsible management and lack of due care in his management of the mine. The newly widowed women find their faith tested when they must go to work in the mine to keep a roof over their heads, food on the table, and help pay the wage for the town's teacher.[10] The town of Coal Valley was renamed Hope Valley in first episode of the second season after the coal mine was closed.

Lee and Rosemary are far too essential to the story line to leave Hope Valley. Lucas as Governor should be living in Capitol City because it is the Capitol of the territory. There is no reason he can't come back to Hope Valley from time to time. I really like Fiona and I know she has gone to live back in the states but when she finishes filming in the other series she is now involved in, there is no reason she can't back either. It would absolutely be fantastic to see the return of Abigail. She was such a driving force in Hope Valley. She truly belongs there. This is the finest show on television today and I know changes are inevitable as in life. BUT, If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Elizabeth would have shared her whole lifetime with Jack had he not died.
And she thought she was in love with Lucas, but when put to the big test of leaving Hope Valley and living the life, that she had left behind, the glamour. She just did not want it, and her heart realized she was not 100% into Lucas.
I find the attraction between Elizabeth and Nathan incredible. Their humour just bounces back-and-forth off of each other. I think they make a great couple and it doesn’t make me feel like they’re passing Elizabeth around.
Life happens.
I know that her and Mountie Nathan belong together. My hearts tells me they will be each others end- game.
Someone mentioned they sure hope that baby Elizabeth is holding is her and Nathan’s. They will make the most beautiful blended family. They all love each other. ♥️

It's about time N and E get together, I hope the writers keep them together.
People come and go, but Hope Valley is full of second chances, right?

Jack and Elizabeth was a perfect fit. The tragic loss of Jack was very heart felt. Elizabeth's fear kept her from loving another mounted officer. Lucus showed his affection and Elizabeth tried to care for him. But at the changes Lucus needed, she realized it wasn't what she wanted for her and lil' Jack. She is a very important person in the town. Nathan a single father, and Elizabeth a single mother needs a happy blended family. And maybe an addition to their together family. Nathan needs to be happy final. I believe their relationship is just as good as she had with Jack.

It seems N and E are going to be the plan. Lucas has demonstrated so much integrity and good will, I would like to see a new love interest for him ---- someone strong and honest and with purpose for land preservation who comes to work for the land preservation project which I hope to see really flourish. This new love interest could have a lot of character connected with nature and land preservation that takes Lucas some adjustment. It could be really developed and fun!

I’ll always believe writers messed up. N and E….should never be together….E and L should be together. All they are doing is passing E around from one man to another after the fact that her and L were making plans to be married! Not a good example for a child or any o the children in HV. I guess that’s what the world wants to see.
