Thousands of registered nurses demonstrated on Thursday in D.C., saying change is needed to help both the profession and their patients.

"We're already short-staffed, we're already working long hours, and COVID was really taxing on us. We're just trying to fight for safe ratios and staffing," said Fawn Mercer, who made the trip here from Maine.

Change is needed. So many years of being disrespected. Being used as a means to make hospital corporations rich. Meanwhile we are doing all the hard work and getting no raises while these corporations report record profits off our backs and exploitation of the ill. It’s grueling and if something doesn’t happen soon I know many coworkers who will gladly leave the field in search of lower stress higher paying jobs.

US hosptials are due to collaspe. They are skeleton crews, dirty, and many hospitals are in the red due to insurance companies owing billions. I don't believe this is organic. It could be fixed, but apparently the goal is governemnt run healthcare. The ERs in my area are sending people home that should be admitted for serious health issues. US healthcare is dead. We have no instructors in my area to train new nurses and the ones we have are miserable. And family medince is so overwhelmed many people have no choice but to seek help at the ER. Our governor has done nothing to address this crisis

Please stop complaining. I respect nurses very much but damn ! Try being in the military, low pay long hours being away from family during holidays deaths and birthdays. Being in different climates in different country’s ! I know I signed up for the military and you did also sign up to be a nurse! So put yourself in a military’s persons shoes ! I was in Iraq and kawait and afganistan! And a few others! Try being away for over a year in 120 degree heat or in other situations! Nobody forced you to be a nurse just like me ! You have no idea what it’s like to be put down over worked and not appreciated at times ! Like I said nurses are a very vital person and I will always say that but you are not any better than a man or woman serving their country and keeping you safe while you sleep!
