Sometimes I stumble into a story about toys, or toys adjacent that feels too unbelievable. Mighty Ducks is one of those. Too weird. Not believable. Disney creates a movie about a coach struggling with sobriety while having to lead a team called the Mighty Ducks to victory, then creates an NHL franchise with the same name and branding? Then goes on to make 2 sequels while the REAL team has losing seasons throughout most of the 1990s? And THEN, makes an animated sci fi kids tv show about humanoid ducks from the planet Puckworld, featuring a lead character who's based on the NHL Mighty Ducks mascot? What the duck?!

Did Coach Bombay get drafted into the Starting Lineup? Just how many Charlie Conway figures are there? Was a hockey mascot the inspiration for a Disney TV show?? This is the one of a kind history of The Mighty Ducks and their action figures!

At 5:45 in that old image, there's a display that has a huge replica of the character's mask/spaceship, it has a hose coming out of it. What ever happened to that thing? Does Disney still have that somewhere? What was the hose for?

In Australia we got wave 2 first, for some reason (see, Mattel didn’t care) and personally I thought the series was great. In retrospect between this, Biker Mice, Street Sharks, Toxic Crusaders and a PILE of other stuff trying to capitalise on TMNT’s concept, this show at least had its own origins and it was toxic waste, more stolen from biker mice i guess
