You guys are both right lol. Speaking about light, white contains all the colors. but when speaking of pigments black contains all colors because it needs to absorb all those colors and reflect none for you to see the absence of light. think that makes sense.

CMY is for subtractive colour. them all together makes black. this is used for ink, painting, etc.
BRY is for additive colour. them all together makes white. this is mainly for light.
So in the case of painting the actual primary colours are magenta, cyan, and yellow. only with light are they red, blue, and yellow.
