Halloween is almost here!! 🎃 We make lots of DIY Halloween Props for our yard haunt and our newest project is a GIANT SPIDER made from chicken wire and foam! Inspired by so many giant spider films and other amazing DIY props, this Halloween decoration is the perfect addition to any home haunt or haunted house. "Gertie" is an easy prop inspired by something between a Black Widow spider, Aragog, and the Boggart from Harry Potter. It's easy to build using simple chicken wire, pipe insulation, and expanding foam that you can find at any hardware store.

The great thing about this project is that you can adapt these techniques to make lots of different diy halloween props and decor. Using chicken wire as a base shape and then covering it in foam is a great foundation for making tons of different kinds of DIY props.

If you'd like to make your very own DIY halloween Giant Spider, we encourage you to give this easy Halloween project a try!

Hi guys. I just wanted to pass on a safety tip. If you're using contact cement I would recommend using a respirator that is designed for chemical exposure (carbon filter). My step dad was a cobbler who used contact cement frequently and ended up getting multiple myeloma. I really enjoy your builds. Stay safe.

Yes, was gonna say something similar- if you soak fabric in water, (not dripping), you lay it over the foam, you can smooth it out, once the foam cures the fabric will peel right off leaving less shaping and smoothing with the rasp to be done

I think I like their videos because it's still pretty quick but they also show the struggles of winging it and attempting different things. Makes me feel more confident to try stuff even if I fail a little 😅

Good job on the spider :)
I started making mine about 3 weeks ago - I tried the chicken wire approach, but it's just super hard. I tried forming a ball for the 'egg sac' bit out of high tensile wire and wrapping it in that black weed-covering material - also a failure. I ended up just buying a beach ball ( like $4.95 for a 36" beach ball) - wrap it in cling film ( saran wrap), spray foam around it, deflate the ball, pull it out, finish the bottom. Worked fabulously. :)

Your next video should be how you store all of your creations. I'm fighting for space with my wife (she likes christmas decorations) for the ever growing pile of Halloween decorations.

If you can find the 3M froth-pak spray foam can be sprayed in much thinner, smoother, and stronger layers.

The face doodads are called pedipalps (for the long ones) and chelicerae (for the short ones, this is where the fangs would be if the spider has them). The more you know ;)

Here’s a trick heat the “insulation tubes” with a heat gun and you can actually melt the tube & it will act as glue onto itself. You can even heat it and manipulate the tubes with your hands to taper the tube. This will work on pool noodles too

This is epic! You could, optionally, make it more terrifying if you added noise and/or movement to her, maybe some lights in the eyes too! Great build! I love seeing what you guys come up with and create!! <3

Amazing who needs store bought props when you can design and build your own. Great job as always.

I have a recommendation, would it be possible to include a measurement list or something like that for projects? I am in the middle of creating this spider and find myself trying to fill in the gaps with the glazed over info from the video—I’m a noob to stuff like this 😅 However, great video and I’m glad I found this channel!

I'm assuming that this is the same sort of technique you could use to make a creepy snowman!

Love watching your ideas come to life!!! I'm definitely going to try to make this one! FYI...my grandpa told me, you should always stomp on your working gloves before putting them on, you never know what might have crawled in them while you were away... like a spiders🕷🕸

Finished mine today. Was a really fun project. Pretty much followed your build all the way. Used a heat gun to weld the pool needles. Worked great. A ton of moments where you feel like its going wrong… but then it all comes together! I only found this because my wife bought some of the beef carcass netting to create the web, but I had no idea what to do… so I followed you instructions there, made your hanging egg sacks, and finished with this! Really appreciate the knowledge !
