Science never rests and this week we have quite a selection of news. It looks like the sun’s magnetic field will flip earlier than expected, the moon is 40 million years older than anyone thought, a group of geologists have found that Earth’s core is leaking, we’ll have a look at the tiniest particle accelerator ever, why airline pricing is such a mess, hear what the International energy agency has to say about the condition of our electric grids, how physics improves protein folding predictions, the most water-repellent surface ever, and of course, the telephone will ring.

"Nature abhors a vacuum." Good one.

Finally I found a news channel that seems to be both accurate reporting and not totally depressing. Yay!

Listening to this while I get dinner ready staves off my ever-creeping feelings of existential dread. Thanks, Sabine!

"Science never rests." Except for those who claim the science is "settled".

If "Solar Maximum" isn't the name of a band, it should be.

Ok that was your best joke yet. "Nature abhors a vacuum" lol 10/10

This is like something I would watch in my science class in the 90’s

Love the way you address scientific topics and, above all, your sense of humor!! 🤓

Thanks for another great video, Sabine. Noticed that the titles of the chapters for tiny particle accelerators and earth fats have been switched

People who travel a lot have suspected this for years - especially if one has to buy on short notice. It also depends on where you are booking the flight from point of purchase has a large impact on prices.

8:03 Sabine and it's always sunny is a crossover I didn't see coming

The earth's core leakage segment and the particle accelerator segments are swapped in the chapters. Great video, and thanks for the science news.

There were no ‘girls’ in my physics classes… 42 semester hours under-grad and 130+ gradual school… this is a blessing for fathers with daughters… some one to point to! Thank you, again.

Dankė-shen! Clever, funny, quick & reminded me of my fear of a CME Carrington Event! How would I get my content craving then?

I do hope you are a real person, but if Sabine Hossenfeld IS one of those generated Deepfake Ai's on Youtube Videos then maybe the robots are not so bad.

Also made me think of Aptera & PriusPrime solar hybrids cars!!! (*Not my fear of ~25 years left of worldwide oldschool petroluem)

I suspect that the reason that the pricing of seats by airlines is so mysterious to these researchers is that many airlines make most of their money from airmiles and credit cards, not from passengers.

Thanks Sabine!
Just an idea: a video about how synchrotron radiation is used to study to how complex molecules actually fold
