Ep. 306: Burr Trail, Utah | RV travel camping hiking RVlife

Показать описание
This week we kick off the Grand Adventure 2023 travel season boondocking along the Burr Trail, a 75-mile route pioneered in the mid-1800s through one of the most sparsely populated areas in the lower 48. It's a rugged road connecting the tiny hamlet of Boulder in southern Utah with the even smaller locale called Bullfrog, on the shores of upper Lake Powell. It started out as a livestock trail, and it didn't change much for the next 75 years or so. Pioneer Josephine Catherine Chatterly Wood wrote in 1882 that the Burr Trail, “…is the most God-forsaken and wild-looking country that was ever traveled.”

While camping we'll explore the area including a slot canyon, searching for ancient cliff dwellings, visiting Anasazi State Park, and of course traveling the entire route that passes through Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and Capitol Reef National Park, so come along!

ABOUT US

Welcome to Grand Adventure, a YouTube channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, always filmed in stunning 4K.

We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah during the winter months, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and dog Zoe are avid boondockers, so while you'll occasionally find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. We've now transitioned from "long-timing" for six months a year, to living and traveling in our RV full-time.

We'll provide beautiful travel videos, as well as some tips and insight on trip planning, and equipping and maintaining your RV to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

When you spoke of your damage, my Wife and I had near tears of empathy for you. Last year I stopped to get gas near Chickahominy Reservoir, OR. I pulled in and no sooner than I did, the gas attendant had me back up. We were only there less than 10 seconds. Sure enough, a prius pulled in right behind me. Yes, you guessed it, I backed my trailer (thankfully, very gently) into the prius. Luckily, I only put a small dent in my sewer hose bumper. However, prius definitely had damage. I was nearly sick over it. I’m always careful. But it was at the end of a longer than normal travel day. And if you know that area, it was the last gas for over 100 miles. We were on vapors. So I was stressed enough to not be as attentive as normal. I definitely exercised my sailors tongue at myself later after setting up camp.

Those mishaps certainly test our patience and expand one's vocabulary. Myself, wife and trusty dog traveled 2 years in our rv, we had our mishaps but wouldn't have traded it for the world.
Safe travels, and thanks for all your hard work.

Thanks so much for sharing this view with good detail about what is paved and what isn't. From an RV towing perspective, this is really great detail.

Marc, another great spot, so sorry about the camper and truck rail. That is one of the things that I worry about if we had a 5th wheel. Safe Travels and maybe we will cross paths this summer on the road- Kyle & Michelle

Great episode Marc! Glad to hear the new truck is exceeding your expectations, but sorry to hear you banged her up already! As they say, everything's fixable.

What an informative video, Marc! We’d never heard of Burr Trail and the areas surrounding Capital Reef and the Glen Canyon dam. You’ve given us another Utah location to visit - thanks!

Ouch!!

I don’t know how you kept so positive after all that. I think some would have cancelled the trip and headed back home.
Oh wait - you are already home! 😉

The rest of this video was excellent!!

Your boondocking spot was beautiful. Nice shot with the drone.

I wish we would have known about Kiva Koffeehouse. I think we were trying to get to our spot in Escalante before dark.

The Singing Canyon was pretty, even if it was a short hike. Definitely would be a great one for those who are physically challenged.

Looks like you found some kind of dwelling. 👍🏼

The drive and the scenery were spectacular on the way to Bullfrog.

We really enjoyed this video.

Thanks for sharing.
