This is NOT a typical ER visit in America. If you go to the ER with a dental abcess they will treat you like a drug seeker, give you zero pain meds and make you feel guilty for going to a ER for teeth and charge you thousands. ive unfortunately had to go twice for dental abcesses, and both times, it was the most embarrassing, painful, and degrading experiences.

He's very lucky that Dr. Rose was able to numb him up! Quite often, numbing is ineffective around an abscess. I've had several drained without local anesthesia (including three in my mouth), it's no fun.

Omg this reminded me of the time I had to go to the ER to have an abscess in my throat drained. I walked in feeling like death, in pain, and totally exhausted from lack of sleep, but walked out feeling great and so alive! It's crazy how much of a relief it is. Still wish I knew how I even got it in the first place though

My hubby was diabetic and very prone to infections. He had a dental abscess once that was so big you could actually see it pulse with each heartbeat. He was in so much pain and I'm empathic so it was hurting me watching him suffer from the awful pain. It finally got to the point where we could do something about it around 1:00 am one early morning. He was already taking antibiotics for it but that night it was ready. I sterilized a safety pin and had BARELY touched the pocket when it burst like a watermelon. It hurt him so bad he actually screamed but a millisecond later I could see the instant relief on his face. After almost 4 days suffering from it, he slept for 16 hrs. And it was one of the worst things I ever smelled.

Yes, the removal of "stuff" feels so good. I had 9 liters of ascites in my abdomen, removed with a Paracentesis. I went from excruciating pain straight to sleep.

It will come right back. They just treated the effects of the abscess. In the short it will help with his pain. However, they need to consult a dentist and treat the cause of the abscess which is the tooth. Root canal and crown or extract and replace it later.

An abscess is just a horrible throbbing pain but if you pop it then you get instant relief !! ALWAYS get an abscess seen to.

I had a dental abscess and went to the local ER for it, they didn't believe me but obliged my concerns by writing scripts for antibiotics.

3 days later, it wasn't getting better so I went to the VA ER an hour away....

They recognized it INSTANTLY.

Issue mostly resolved.

I had an abcess in my mouth once. Everytime I bit down on the left side of my mouth it felt like someone was squeezing my teeth with plyers. I was told to rinse my mouth a few times a day with warm salty water and it actually did help. One night it popped while I was sleeping, the taste was so horrible I ran to the bathroom from a dead sleep gagging and ending up throwing up. I swallowed a mouthful of mouthwash to get the taste out. I've never eaten shit before but I'd imagine this is what it tastes like.

Oh I had one of these in the same place and I went to the ER and they wanted to do this and I said no way! I went home and the next day it burst on its own and my mouth was filled with pus. I was spitting for a while. It felt so much better! Omg the release of all that pressure was heaven. This poor man endured that needle he is brave!

He’s had an abcess before there. The tooth needs to be dealt with. You can’t just drain the abscess.
